If someone could help me in the value of a Colt Diamondback 38 Special Blue 4" Barrel, date is 1973, the condition of the gun is 98 %, no box though. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!!!!!!

Gun Broker is always a good way to get an idea. I just bought a 1969 that is in about 95% without box or papers for $475 and I feel like I got a deal!:)

From what I've seem of diamond backs today I would estimate it's value at about $700.00. I had one in the early 1980s and like the young fool I was traded it for a Dan Wessom 15vh and a Charter Arms Undercover.:banghead:

Yes, $475 is one heck of a deal! In the condition you described, I would say it would easily be worth twice that much in my area. It's against myself and other's best interest, but if I were you, I'd never sell or trade that gun. They're going to get harder and harder to find and I don't see Colt ever bringing back that model. You've got a piece of history and if you had that down a few generations, someone will really have something to be proud of.

Believe it or not, I am in SoCal!! Land of almost 10% sales tax and exempt from the 2nd Amendment!

In all fairness though, my Diamondback's blueing is about 95% but it has the newer Detective Special wood grips on it instead of the original grips that should be on it. So, I will be out another $100 or more to buy the original grips on Ebay.

I bought mine a few years after that (76) for $225 if that gives you any ideas....

Seriously, a nice one will easily go a grand down here in Houston, TX. I have been eyeing them several times to get a nice one to put up so I can keep my shooter in the mix. They are great guns!

Thinking of that, time for a Diamondback Picture. Here is mine after 46,243 odd rounds fired.

That is a thing of beauty! They look like little Python Jr's!:)

I have a 4" .22 cal. diamondback in Nickel finish it has not been fired except for possible test firing. I have the origional grips but it has a set of rubber grips installed.
i bought it 25 years ago. I Do not have the box or papers but they are available on E-Bay for about $ 100. What do you figure the pistol is worth and how much would the box and papers increase the value ?
Thanks

The .22 caliber Diamondbacks are brining more of a premium. I've seen that specific gun going for about $1200 to $1400 at gun shows. What I posted earlier about never selling or trading the Diamondback, well that goes twice for the .22 caliber ones.

4" Blue 38spl Diamondback... probably somewhere between $750-$1000 at about 98%.

The 4" is the most common of the Diamondbacks. It is my favorite, but still the most common in terms of production.

The nickel 4" 22 Diamondback will sell at a premium. I would expect it would sell for $2000+ without the box. Good luck finding an original box for a nickel Diamonback for $100. You can expect to pay at least 2x that. I wouldn't worry about a box unless you just have to and I wouldn't offer more $ because of it if buying the gun.

Yeah, there is a resemblence, but in the end they are very different insides.

I could not bring myself to buy another nickeled Colt. 2 was my limit.

I like those Pachmayr grips for shooting. They look pretty crappy, but I shoot better with them on the gun.

My assortment of nickel plated Colt revolvers is fairly sparce. That 4" 22 mentioned above would be a nice addition.

$ 2,000 for my Colt Diamondback ????:eek: i just became a " seller " anybody want it???:p
I have it. Condition is pristine...in every respect. it has been kept in a climate controlled fire-arms vault 4 inch barrel . 22 Nickle finish pachmayer grips installed and stock wood grips go with it. no box or papers . I might have test fired it but I honestly don't remember doing so. but have a pretty good case of C.R.S. lol
It's for sale... If your interested, contact me at [email protected]

I think the $2000 will depend on the area you're in and even though they might be listed at that price, the better question is are they selling at that price? Anybody can put a $1000 price tag on a Hi-Point, if you see what I'm getting at. Take a look on GunBroker and see what the bids are for .22 Diamondbacks. While it's a good idea to pay attention to what people are listing them at, it's also good to see what people are typically bidding for them as well.

Joebiplane, what state are you in? We might talk if you're in my state. I also suggest you list the gun in the classified ads on THR as these kinds of things are a not allowed in the regular forums. You got pictures?

Here is a picture of my diamondback I've had for 25 years. Originally came as a 6" .22. I had a 4" barrel put on it this year and like the balance much better. I just got it back today after getting the Metalife treatment. Looks like brushed stainless steel now. I'll keep it for another 25 years!

I went by the local fun shop a couple of days ago and they had two Diamondbacks. I didn't take them out of the case, so condition is a guess. One may have been close to the 98% condition and had $850 on it and probably no box. The other was a good shooter grade, maybe 92% and some noticeable dings on the stocks. It was priced at $750. Mechanical condition unknown for either gun.
