colt dragoon ammo

I'm ready to purchase a Colt dragoon revolver and have no idea where to buy the ammo and other materials needed to load and fire the weapon. I live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida and am new to this type of gun. I'm buying it because of the historical aspect of the firearm and am looking forward to firing the gun. Any comments are really appreciated.

The Colt Dragoons are fine guns and are a blast to shoot. I have a Uberti 2nd Model Dragoon and love it. I got many of my supplies at Track of the Wolf. I had some difficulty getting black powder but finally ordered from Powder Inc. You could also try 777 or Pyrodex, which you can get from most sporting retailers. Do a search on this website and you will get plenty of info on shooting the Dragoon.

The original load was 40grs of BPand a round ball or conical.

The Dragoons can hold up to 50 grains of 3F or Pyro "P".
You will need:
*.454 balls (or .451-.457, depending on your chamber size.) The .454's are the most common size. Your true correct size will be hard to seat, and shave off a nice ring of lead on seating. (If the ball presses in with little or no resistance, it's too loose and may result in a chainfire...bad joo-joo!)
* Powder (see above)
* #11 caps
*.44 cal Wonder Wads
* Grease for over the ball (esp. if using real BP-it helps soften the fouling.) Many shooters skip the grease when using Wonder Wads, but it's extra protection against chainfires. I use plain ol' Crisco.
* Powder flask
* Powder measure (do NOT pour direct from the flask!!!!)
* Capper (Using fingers can result in nicknames like "Stubby" or "Stumps")
* Loading stand (not needed, but helpful)
