Hi everybody. I'm new here an I am hoping you can help me out with a little question I have. Does anyone know anything about the Colt Detective Special II? I am in the process of possibly trading for one and I am having trouble finding much information on the gun. It has the large front sight and the ejector rod without the shroud. The finish on it is sort of a matte black, not a blue. The Grips are some type of wood and all they say is "Colt". The guy who is interested in the trade just says it's a detective special but it is in way to perfect condition to be an original-the gun is Like New, no box. Any information on the gun or its value will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here is a pic of the gun.

That is an older Detective Special that has been refinished. It was bead blasted before it was blued to get that matte finish. The stocks (or grips) are not original to that revolver. It appears to have the long grip frame which I believe should indicate it being made before 1966. It is not as you say a Detective Special II. A real DSII is made of stainless steel. Depending on the action and bore being in good condition I would give around $250 for it as it's just a shooter.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I believed the gun must be a newer model because of the finish-but I never could find a DSII that looked like that. Since I am not looking for a snub nose "shooter" I think i will keep what I have. Thanks again.
