A month or two ago I posted a question regarding .357 accuracy - what groups were attainable with a .357 revolver at 25 yards. Good information ensued (Thanks everybody).

Anyway , I needed a project this winter - even though I haven't had a lot of time to spend on it - here's an update -(maybe someone will find it interesting) LOL

First , I wanted some speed so I bought some H110 , and 125g bullets.(I also bought some win296 , what a noob). Went to Hodgdon website which lists 21g of H110 as starting. Loaded 12 each from 21g to 22g in .2 inc. and went to the "range".

(In the meantime I bought a Burris 2x scope and mounted it on Weigand mounts. It's cool as h### , what a hoot to shoot , If anyone's been thinking of doing this , I recommend it - for the fun factor if nothing else. Plus it's helped my shooting (personally))

Loaded revolver with 21g loads and let me tell you they were FEROCIOUS! 1550 - 1600 fps and starting to show pressure signs. I think the Colt could stand up to them , but my wrist (and nerves) couldn't. So I decided to dismantle the rounds I had loaded and re - group. (sigh)

Looked up .357 125g bullet loads in my speer manual and guess what? 20g of h110 is listed as MAX LOAD! (Steep learning curve in this reloading game eh?)18g was starting load , sounded good to me , so I loaded 50 with 18g H110. Shot some through the chrony , 1430 or therabouts (if memory serves), still plenty stiff to shoot (you definately know it ain't a .38 for sure) , manageable , about the speed I want , no pressure signs , life's pretty good.

Work , weather , work , family obligations , then today -

I shot a couple groups , fiddled with scope , then shot the two groups pictured (rested - one on left first , one on right concentrating very hard.)

Now the question - I don't think very many guys consider h110 an "accuracy" powder , but considering these groups with the first load I tried - rested on the hood of my truck - and still getting used to the recoil of combination - should I pursue a more accurate load with h110 or abandon it for something else? If so what?

Thanks for comments , everybody.

Darwin (vis a vis natural selection) would be interested in the part where you consult the manual AFTER you have exceeded the max recommendation.

You mis-read. I clearly say I got the initial load data from the Hodgdon website.

I love the accuracy of my King Cobra.

I tend to load much lighter but most of the time it is punching holes in paper.
