This is what I have found out about the Colt M16 22LR. BTY.. I own one. Have not shot it yet.. But I will. Here is what I know. The COLT M16 22LR is German Made Made in Germany Imported by UMAREX USA and sold under License from Colt to use the Colt name on it. Bottom Line is.. This Weapon is Made in Germany by WALTHER. Since it is German made, I am sure it will shoot well as anything made by CARL WALTHER is top Shelf. The Version I have is the M16 SPR. Not sure why but my dust cap will not stay up. Not like the Germans to make a mistake, so I called UM and they informed me that it was deisgned to not stay up. Some Regulation in some other country so Walther makes them all like this. I will investigate further. Also. Mine came with a 10 round mag. I would like a 20 or 30 round as 10 rounder will not enough for me. Trigger pull is hard. Over all quality is first rate. Fit and Finish is what you would expect from Germany and is superb. Since my M16 SPR has the longer muzzle, I expect it to be a tack driver at 100 meters and further. We shall see. With such a hard trigger pull, it will be harder to get projectiles into the same hole at such a distance of 100 meters or more. But I am up to the task. I am hoping the trigger will get better after some shooting.

I think you'll love your new "Colt". Mine has been great but avoid using Remington Golden Bullet as it causes FTFs. Federal 36gr value pack at Walmart is cheap and works well.

The dust cover is designed to stay down and I've heard that's because Walther is dead serious wanting you to keep that blue chamber empty indicator in place. But a little JB Weld, etc. can build it up enough to function normally.

As far as 20 and 30 round magazines, Umarex sells them but Cheaper Than Dirt is a little cheaper. Mine came with a 30rd mag and I bought another plus two 20rders. The 30rd is very long while the 20rd is almost the same length as a normal 30rd AR mag. Of course if you're in a ban state that would be why yours came with only a 10rder.

Mine is accurate and reliable and I bet yours will be too.

Since it is German made, I am sure it will shoot well as anything made by CARL WALTHER is top Shelf.
As a fan of Walther ... not really
If it doesn't say "Ulm" it is Umarex, not Walther.
This isn't to say that Umarex doesn't make perfectly good airsoft toys or that they can't handle a .22 design, but you're not buying a real Walther.

Pics of M16 Colt

Here are some pics of what it shows. It does say made by Carl Walther Germany. Also. I see the Walther symbology on the bolt. See pics.

Yes, well, the P22 is also made by Walther so unfortunately the name doesn't really mean much anymore.

Issues with the design that I've experienced:

1) It's ammo picky. Find stuff it likes, though, and it will run well. Other loads/brands, not so much.

2) Some idiot decided you had to roll the selector 180 degrees to go from safe to fire. That was just a really stupid design decision, since it undoes a lot of potential training value the weapon might have had.

3) The 30 round magazine for it is stupidly long. Again, interferes with training utility. I'd much rather have had a 25 round mag that matches the actual dimensions of a real 30 rounder, etc.

Yes, well, the P22 is also made by [strike]Walther[/strike]

Umarex, under the Walther name
Again, REAL Walther comes from the Ulm plant, and remains good stuff, Umarex has been abusing the rights to the Walther name out of the Do plant and others.

Ok. Here it is.........

This comes right From the Carl Walther Gmbh company post. I will copy paste and then follow up with the link if interested. Gmbh is German for German Private Owned Company. This is the information for the Colt M16 SPR . I do not know about the other versions as this post is for the SPR. And here it is copy paste. I only copy paste a small portion. To get the full post, visit the Carl Walther Gmbh site with the link provided. I did not want to violate any of the Walther German copyright laws by copy pasting the page. Not sure it would anyway since it has to be for gain. but .. anyway.. Here is a small portion...

Colt M16 SPR Rifle , Under the brand name COLT the legendary models of the COLT M4/ M16 series are produced in Germany by CARL WALTHER in caliber .22 l.r. in TOP quality. Same as on the original the upper and lower receiver is made of high-quality aluminum as well as the milled Pica tinny-style rails of the different fore-end variants.

All variants are supplied with a 30-round magazine as standard. According to the different national laws 10-round or 2-round magazines are available, too.

■ Full Metal Body: Upper and lower receiver made of high quality aluminum
■ Tactical Plus: The Colt M16 Special Purpose Rifle (SPR) has full tactical railing and flip-up front and rear sights for adapting optics.
■ Tactical Railing: Made of CNC machined high-grade aluminum to accommodate a wide variety of tactical accessories with Pica tinny-style mounts.
■ Safety: External, manual safety for safer handling during inactivity
■ Sights: Flip-up front and rear sights, adjustments for windage and elevation
■ Stock: One-piece, made of plastic

This is straight from the Carl Walther Gmbh site. This is admission that Walther does make this weapon. Since I go to Germany every year, I will swing by the plant and Visit with Carl Jr then next time I am there and double check that these are not copied in Violation of Copyrights and Patents from Carl. The Germans do take offense to those that would use their name without written authorization. My take is that there is in no way any of these models made anywhere except in Germany by Walther. I will check other Walter Models for the ULM or NEU ULM stamp on metal as I have not heard this before. But now that I own one, I will research it more and let you all know. Here is the link to the Carl Walther Gmbh page for this weapon.

Note at the very bottom of the page... Since I did not copy paste in whole the content. Only a part. This should be fine.

Actually the Colt/Walther/Umarex M4/M16 is of decent quality and a fine, reliable shooter once you find the ammo it likes (Federal, CCI, Winchester, etc.) Like the S&W M&P15-22 it does not like Remington Golden Bullet.

Sure it has warts but people who actually own them like them. I'm pleased with mine. The 180 degree selector and super long 30rd magazine bug me but overall mine has the look and feel and heft of an M4 more than other dedicated .22 AR lookalikes. Same goes for the M16 versions. Pop in the 20rd mag (which is about the same length as the USGI 30rd) and they look just like a real M4 or M16 to the guy next to you at the firing range.

No doubt there was disappointment after initial hopes of having Colt or Walther quality but at the average $400-450 selling price today you get a lot for your money. The quality is acceptable at that price point and they are good shooters. When they were first released and selling for $650 no doubt there was more buyer's remorse.

As well as this M4 version has worked out I'm tempted to get the M16 to go with it. Also tempted by the super lightweight M&P15-22. Overall these AR knockoffs in .22LR are great fun and not a bad investment if the prices stay low.

Here are mine a M16 SPR and a M4 OPS

Both gun was mod with Magpul part

M16 SPR
Magpul PRS stock
Harris bipod
Bushnell 2.5-16x scope

Not according to any of the ones I have seen. Sloppy assembly, cheaply made parts, bad QC, terrible cases tolerance stacking...

I saw one where the back of the Lower receiver broke off after a 4 foot fall. They are cheaply made with cheap materials. I know a number of shops that have stopped carrying them and only carry the M&P22 now because of the numerous problems they have. The Smith isn't perfect either but does not suffer from the number of problems the Walther does.
