I did a search and saw that some people here have these rifles, but there is not much more info.....Not much on the web either, other than they are(or seem to be) good quality firearms and up to Colt standards.

What's the verdict on them? reliability? accuracy? and one biggy question I have, will they accept a centerfire AR upper???
I really like the M16 look and I can get one for $588 OTD, looks like a fantastic practice weapon....I'm about ready to pull the trigger on one unless I hear bad on them...

I think the press has mostly been good so far. I think I saw one guy who said he was having issues with one, but that's to be expected, IMO (you can find one bad review of anything).

I personally don't like the oversized 30 round magazine they sell it with (won't work with any of my mag pouches, etc., so I'd be limited to working things like mag changes), but my understanding is that Umarex says they'll have the shorter 10 round mags available on their website by the end of the month.

I handled it at a local shop looked and felt solid however the local shop had it listed for 765. I personally wouldn't pay over 450 for one of these or a GSG which I also find to be a well built and solid 22LR.

I bought one for $550 and it looks to be pretty well made. I haven't shot it yet but that should change very soon.

btw: Anyone know for sure whether or not these UMAREX Colt's use a standard AR lower?

The ten round mags are just a picture so far -- I looked at what ordering several would run and found out there's no actual way to order them yet, so emailed Umarex for an availability date.

The gun doesn't use a standard AR lower. There's a Youtube video someone posted on here a while back showing a guy installing a Magpul stock on one, and the innards of the lower look completely incompatible with an AR from what I could see.

The only things compatible on the Umarex/Colt and a standard AR is the furniture (stocks, handguards).

The Umarex/Colt is also not compatible with any of the magazines for the .22LR AR conversions that are currently available.

i recently purchased one, and with similar results from other owners such as, ftf, stove pipe, light primer strike which i used the federal value pack w/525 rounds in the box. but when i use american eagle and cci minimags i had no problems at all. heres some pics with range results using 3 different ammo, shooting at 25 and 50 yards with irons and a scope, its a keeper for me. the most important part for me its hella fun to shoot and cheaper ammo

First, sorry about the link above to the 10round mag...hopefully it they will be available soon.
Thanks for all the info....I learned much about these rifles.

I was holding out for the S&W but after finding out the S&W will be a polymer gun unlike the colt a milspec weapon I will be buying the colt. A shop has one here for $515. Only bad thing I have heard is that possibly Uramex support is not all that great.

As for the GSG I own one of those also and it is solid built. I enter it in the July rifle match heheheh. Here are the results. People say they are just fun not accurate I beg to differ. It probably won't win any real matches but it is accurate and not to mention cool :).

I bought one a little bit ago. So far I have had no problems with mine. I also found that the thread adapter for a P22 fits on the Colt allowing me to run it suppressed.

The colt is not really a milspec. It has a metal receiver but does not use normal AR fire control parts. The safety has to be rotated 180 degrees not 90 as on an AR. The bolt catch is molded in the receiver and is functional.

I am waiting to see the S&W. I can live with a polymer receiver if the controls are the same as an AR. If not I will buy an upper from Spike's and put it on the last lower I have stashed.

If I had any extra lowers around I would have probably done the same thing. This being a dedicated platform has more appeal to me than changing the uppers. This is only due to the number of AR's I already have. According to a friend of mine who attended the shot show and asked S&W about the platform it will be a dedicated platform as well and not capable of exchanging uppers or other parts.

Got to shoot a friend's this wekend. Pretty flawless with Federal bulk pack. I put 10 rounds of PMC moderator through it without a hitch also.

I did not realize these were being manufactured by Walther. Side of lower was marked manuf. under license by Carl Walther etc.

I called Umarex today and asked about Magpul products for my M16 22. they told me as long as it is Mil Spec magpul items they will work, but not the commercial spec items.

Fricken awesome.

Magpul

Magog, I tried a magpul MOE pistol grip and it does not fit because the screw holes do not line up. The magpul grip would need to be modified by drilling a new hole. I am not mechanically inclined enough for that task, so I'm sticking with the original grip. The mil spec magpul butt stocks do fit. I tried the magpul CTR stock. It works but it is still as loose as the original stock even with the locking feature that comes with the CTR stock. I also tried a mil-spec magpul ACS stock and it was loose just like the original stock.
These are great rifles. Just don't expect them to run as smoothly as a $1200 Colt M4.

I have to say thank you to the OP. I have been wondering about this gun myself. Not sure if I want this or another dedicated .22 or a .22 upper for my AR. I have seen mostly positive feed back for the Colt so far in my research.
