Hi all, I'm new here so please be gentle. Yesterday I came across a new in the box, never loaded never fired Colt Mustang Pocketlite. I have been looking for one for quite a while to use as my CCW (I have been using my PPK but the Mustang is a lot lighter). Seeing as though the one I found is mint I am wondering if I should just put it away and see if it goes up in value. All of the ones I have seen on the net are in the $800 range, I paid $200 less for this one. Do you think there will be muck more apprication in these in the next few years?

p.s. I have never bought a gun that I haven't used.............

just a quick suggestion..

I own a couple Mustangs and they are now ultra-valuable safe queens, only getting shot on holidays and on Roman High days. I actually stopped carrying them when they became "Valuable" and invested in a Kel-Tec 3at. I must say, for pocket carry, the KT is the best, it is light, fairly accurate and mine at least goes bang every time. Since they are not making the mustang, I would not carry it, but use a simple tool, that I won't care about the finish etc.

I carry mine. It, IMHO, is much easier to operate than my P3AT and it always hits what it is aimed at. The nature of the trigger on the KT makes it less accurate. Yes, it is valuable from a collectors standpoint, but the value I place on my well being and life is much more. If you bought a Rhoorbach (sp) 9mm for about $900.00, would you just lock it in the safe and not use it because of the cost?

I'm pretty sure it will be a carry gun. It's what I was looking for , I just never thought I'd find a new one.

Many years ago I had the predecessor to that gun, i.e., the Colt Government .380. I sure wish I hadn't sold it. Never jammed, and easy as heck carry. You know why I sold it? I wanted to fund the purchase of a Mustang Pocketlight, which was the latest and greatest of that line at the time. So I sell the Government .380, and call the shop to order the Mustang. You know what they told me? Colt just announced they are not making them anymore, and they simply cannot get anymore. Can you believe the luck?

My Mustang is put up and only shot a couple times a year now . It gets carried 1 or 2 times a year also. I switched to a PPK/S then to a Kel Tec. going to carry a 380 KT will do the job At 21' I have done 1 1/2" group with KT never did that with Mustang.
Keep yours unfired and get a KT for carry.

My Mustang Pocketlite gets carried regularly in my hip pocket.

Just a month or so ago I picked up a Mustang Mark IV (.380)--used. Wow, what a sweet little pistol this is. Accurate as heck, light, and small. Only drawback is the 6 round magazine. I carry it everyday and love it. I actually am going to be on the lookout for another one (got this one for a great price).

I think the reason the value is through the roof on Mustangs and Govt. .380s is a combination of factors: they are an excellent deep concealment peice, all but 2 states now have some form of CCW, and Colt - in their infinite wisdom - has discontinued an extremely marketable product. I have even seen custom carry packages that go for over $1200 on a shop supplied gun.

While many folks will expound that .380acp is just not suitable for self defense, sometimes a small gun is all you can bring to a gunfight. When that's the case, it's nice to have one that can reliably handle +p loads like the Colts can - especially the all steel models. Plus - especially for a dedicated 1911 shooter - the single action trigger makes it absolutely surgical at self defense ranges as opposed to having to transition to a heavy DAO pistol.

I was fortunate enough to pick up a used Govt. .380 just before the demand went ballistic (the dealer still offers to give me my money back to this day) and it remains one of my favorite guns to this day.

I pocket carry an all steel Mustang every day. I have been through all the big name carry guns and this is the one that works for me. I can carry it all day, every day, no matter what I am doing or how I am dressed. Yes, the 380 is a bit wanting. But remember, anyone worth shooting is worth shooting twice.
