I'm hoping I can get some help before I have to send this gun back to Colt. I have a Mustang that I bought used a couple of weeks ago and I guess I inherited a couple of problems with it. #1 the grip screws are partially stripped, to the point where they will snug up but not tighten enough to hold the grips properly in place, they seem to be a tad short, when I look at them through the other side of the gun it seems that they should be about 1/12 of an inch longer, they are not flush with the inside of the frame.

#2 - the gun is having FTE about one round out of every other mag.

The gun is bright shinny clean so I don't think dirt is the problem. I have replaced the mag springs with Wolff +5% and have replaced the recoil spring and plunger with the Wolff single spring (11lb.) and the steel plunger.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks MUCH

Added info............I have tried three different HP load and all three are having FTE's Federal Hydra Shock, Winchester Ranger HP 95 gr. & Pro Load 90gr HP's

Have you tried any hardball? Does it only have trouble with hollowpoints?

Have you tried a new magazine, or a new spring for the magazine?

Hardball seems to be ok...............

I have a brand new Colt mag. same problem with it using the stock spring and also with the Wolff +5% spring. The same problems happen with the mag that I received with the gun.

Occasional failure to eject hollowpoints, but hardball is OK? Guessing the difference is that the hollowpoints are loaded a little hotter. With new springs and a good mag, my next guess would be the ejector face or extractor tension, but I do not know enough about that part of the game to offer you much help.

Maybe the THR gunsmithing forum?
