Revolver gurus, I need your guidance. I've always said that I don't keep safe queens, and that's what I thought . . . . until I really got to thinking about what I have and what. I realized that there's this one pistol that I've always hung onto, but, really, I almost never shoot it. A Colt Peacekeeper, with a 4" barrel. My understanding is that it is a Mark V Trooper that was built during a time when some Colt workers were on strike. In order to get pistols to the market, Colt parkerized a whole bunch of Troopers and called them Peacekeepers. As soon as the strike was over, the Peacekeeper faded away.

I've had it since ~1986, and the round count since I've owned it is easily still in double digits. It's a nice pistol, with a good trigger, but I always seemed to have something else that I wanted to shoot more, so this one just stayed on the shelf for 30 years. It's also been exceedingly rare that I've seen one with the 4" barrel. Most all of them seem to have 6" barrels.

I've searched the web, checked gunbroker, and just about every site I can come up with that looks reasonably reliable. I'm seeing prices of ~$600 from 10 years ago to somewhere around $2500 in current listings. Anybody care to offer me some guidance on what this thing might be worth?

As you will probably hear again, it's worth what someone is willing to pay. Check completed listings on gunbroker if you can find some that have actually sold. Listing prices don't really tell you what they sell for. Sounds cool. Got a pic? You might also ask around the colt forum. Some real knowledgeable colt geek... er, gurus hang out there. :)

I used to want one of these real bad as a kid, after reading a Shooting Times article on the 8" Whitetailer. Your history is correct, they were made when the polishing staff were on strike. They are basically a Trooper with no polishing, a bead blast over a machined finish. I don't remember if they're parkerized or just matte blued. I've looked at them recently and saw most were in the $600-$800 range. The Whitetailer was the only one I saw going for upwards of $2000. You don't see very many of them.

Thank you all for your input. You've largely confirmed what my research showed: It's more valuable than a Jimenez, and less valuable than a Python.

I had the blued version, the Trooper Mk.V, and it was a very nice revolver, every bit the equal of comparable S&Ws at the time. Must have been built at a time when Colt didn't have any labor issues going on. Saw the Peacekeeper at a local gun store but after already being burned on one of those similarly finished Colt Agents and a stainless Colt Officers ACP (both never should have left the factory), I was very careful when looking over any Colt built during that time.

If You have the complete package; box, papers, etc. THAT helps immensely with a high selling price as such packages are what Collectors are looking for. Post your query over on the Colt Forum.

I have only the pistol. I joined the Colt Forum, posted my question, and those folks (who were very helpful, by the way) pretty well confirmed my research.
