colt peacemaker.22

recently acquired a colt peacemaker .22/.22mag that appears to have very little wear and first time out shooting had a lot of misfires with several types of ammo. no recalls for this gun on the colt website that i could find. anyone have or had a similar problem? any help would be appreciated

How do your firing pin strikes look?

Make sure you aren't trying to shoot .22LR in the .22 WMR cylinder.

sporadic. sometimes faint and sometimes good.

These 30 YO guns easily get gummed up with congealed lubricants that can cause that problem Only answer would be a detail strip clean a with degreaser and tooth picks and relube. If you take off the grips , brake clean snorkled into the hole at base of hammer when cocked and action worked a few times and relubed with a light oil like Marvel Mystery lube MAY help.

Give the firing pin hole in the frame a couple squirts too.

There is a tiny return spring in front of the FP and a little dried grease & dirt would pack it up solid.

thanks for the info i'll give that a try. didn't want to jump to light speed and assume its the main spring

As suggested, it could have some gunk in the wrong place. Even if it is the hammer spring, those are easy to swap.
