I have a friend who has an unfired Colt Python in .22 caliber. Royal Blue with a 6 inch barrel... Stunning to say the least. I believe it's part of a matched set with a .357. He bought both of them about 30 years ago for somewhere around $300.

The only thing I have seen on the web is that these were non-production guns and only a limited number were made.

Does anyone have an idea what the value might be? My personal opinion is that the value would look like the milage between stars, but he favors his old Colt SA as more valuable.

Are you sure it's a Python in .22 and not a Diamondback ?
The Python was a catalog item in .22, but was never released to the public in .22.
There were sets sold with a 6 inch Python .357 Magnum & 6 inch Diamondback in .22

I'll check this afternoon. I haven't actually looked at the pair for a couple of months...I'd swear the .22 is a python, but best to doublecheck.

If it's a Python we need pictures, so ya better take your camera.:D

Bummer (relatively speaking), it's a Diamondback.

Beautiful, old, and unfired, but not the elusive .22 Python.

Altho the story of it's beginnings is interesting. It started out as a bank promotion in Colorado. Apparently you had a choice of a certain interest...or a Python - Diamondback set.

Could you imagine that happening today?

Sorry Guys....

I can imagine it happening in the non-Denver part of Colorado, although Colt is no longer in the double action revolver business.

It seems I have seen ads for that kind of promotion releativly recently, but I can't say for sure how long ago. It was fairly common for a while. You'd deposit X ammount in a CD and could take either the interest or the gun. IIRC, you got the gun up front too.
