I use to own a late 50's Colt 1911 that had a bright nickel finish. The bright nickel finish really showed fingerprints and little smears. Does the Colt Python in the ulitimate stainless finish also make fingerprints and smears really noticeable? Thanks.

The ultimate brite stainless steel is very hard to keep looking beautiful. Any little wear puts marks on the mirror surface.

It's not a problem.
The solution is.... Don't touch anything but the grips/stocks and you'll be just fine. :D

Thanks for the replies.

Nice Python, GUNKWAZY.

I'd like to find a NIB Python Elite 4" Stainless (brushed). Other than Gunbroker, AuctionArms, GunsAmerica, does anyone know who may have one in stock?

nero(should've bought one last year :( )

I'm sorry Cosmo,
Let me tone it down a notch. Here's another Beast (as you call it)... :what:

Maybe we should start a post with nothing but nickel guns.

not only will it show every smudge and fingerprint like nickle, but you'll have the added feature of the scratches left behind when you wipe off the smudges

9mmepiphany, What the heck are you wiping your guns with... Sandpaper ?
You should NOT be using something that scratches the finish every time you wipe down your guns. :(

Hey guys, I just put a minty (98-99%?) 4" blued Python on layaway!

It's $900 out the door, and I'll pick it up next friday (8/5). The only blemish or sign of use on it is a very, very faint drag line on the cylinder. It has the older type front sight with two pins holding it in place, and factory grips that look similar to the factory grips on the Colt Diamondback (I don't know if there is a special name for those type of grips).

I thought my Diamondback had a nice trigger, but it's only OK compared to this Python!

Nero, is $900 about the going rate in your neck of the woods for a Python?

The only reason I ask is that, about two years ago, I bought an unfired 6" nickel Python with box and papers for $895.

i might be overstating it just a bit :scrutiny: but in my experience, stainless steel, as used in handguns, is much more prone to picking up scratches (you know like the ones you get when you wash your car) then any other finish.

i can see the whirls from being wiped down with a soft cloth and even from just running the pad of your thumb across a flat surface. this is why all my stainless guns have a brushed/beaded/matted finish

Wow! Really nice Colt's,I have my eye on a Nib SS 6inch Pyton at my local store. My shooting buddy really like bright stainless and ultimate stainless Colt's. I tend to like the blue ones. :p

GEE....have you never heard of flitz or any good metal polish. I understand that bright stainless is high maintenance, but its not near as horrible as being implied.....

Monkeyleg, I don't often see alot of Pythons here in Pinellas Co., FL., but yes the ones that I have seen are around the $900/plus range.
