Colt Python Questions

I have a colt Python serial nunber 87048E. I would like to know what year it is and the type of finish. I don't know if it is nickel or polished stainless steel. What years did the Python come with the nickel finish and is it worth collecting ?

It is in a brown cardboard box with a molded styrofoam insert, with Colt written on the top. The label is blank. Is this the original box ? If not, original would it be the correct year for this gun ?

1978, which is probably nickel, since Pythons in stainless didn't start until 81 or 82 I believe.

The nickle Pythons are gaining some in value, from what I've noticed over the last couple of years.

But they are still cheap enough to buy to shoot.

Even though I can't bring myself to shoot mine......
