I'm guessing that at some point in time, Colt considered making the Python cheaper.
They must have been thinking about eliminating all the hand fitting and going to cheaper style production to bring the initial cost of the Python down.
By doing so they must have been considering what you see here. The Colt Python MKIII.
Lucky for us Colt Python fans, they never did do that.
Lucky for me, they made a couple samples. Here they are. One has Gold medallions in the stocks the other has Silver medallions in the stocks.

Where do you come up with all these one-of-a-kind...or few-of-a-kind Colts??? Don't they usually put that kinda stuff in their own displays???

That is Colt liquidating their assets. Interpret that how you will.

Yes this stuff belongs in museums but they are going to private collections. Thank you GUNKWAZY for sharing what you have with us.

I for one must second the call for you to open a museum; I would definitely make the trip to Arizona to see this collection of rare, one of a kind Colts. Having owned both a Trooper Mk. III and Mk. V, I would have found a Python Mk. III most interesting. As always, thanks for sharing.
