Even though it's immaterial to the discussion, if you ask around you'll find just about the same devotion among Trooper Mk III owners as you do among Python owners. Except they won't moan quite so much about how much a good used one costs these days.And the MkIII isn't regarded with nearly the reverence of the Python, is it?
My point was that MkIII owners seem to really like their guns. Sintered metal parts and all. If I could go out and buy a brand new Python with the fit and finish of a 1950s/1960s/early1970s one I wouldn't care if the hammer and trigger and cylinder release were made out of dried buffalo dung as long as it held up and was just as smooth operating as the original forged parts were.
By the way, have you priced a Colt Boa recently?
But I also agree with GKs original post. It would have been nice to see Colt do SOMETHING special for the Python's 50th birthday.
Especially since it wasn't all that long ago that Colt was famous for producing a commerative model handgun for just about everything.
