It's a shame about the Python...

And the MkIII isn't regarded with nearly the reverence of the Python, is it?
Even though it's immaterial to the discussion, if you ask around you'll find just about the same devotion among Trooper Mk III owners as you do among Python owners. Except they won't moan quite so much about how much a good used one costs these days.

My point was that MkIII owners seem to really like their guns. Sintered metal parts and all. If I could go out and buy a brand new Python with the fit and finish of a 1950s/1960s/early1970s one I wouldn't care if the hammer and trigger and cylinder release were made out of dried buffalo dung as long as it held up and was just as smooth operating as the original forged parts were.

By the way, have you priced a Colt Boa recently?

But I also agree with GKs original post. It would have been nice to see Colt do SOMETHING special for the Python's 50th birthday.
Especially since it wasn't all that long ago that Colt was famous for producing a commerative model handgun for just about everything.

Wow, I guess I should have posted Cry babies post somewhere else.

I'm a Python owner and a Colt fan, but have to say...this is a discussion board. Did you really think you could control the content of the posts on a given thread? We all have opinions.

"the Colt design relies on a lot of specialized work that in the old days was done by experts who were underpaid. Today that same hand labor costs a lot of money."

There's a lot of gunbuilding talent in the Czech Republic. I think CZ should buy Colt's handgun business. :)

Sheesh. Opinions ???
C-mon. I sometimes can't believe where a topic can go here.

Someone will post a genuine question like... I'm thinking about buying a Taurus model 608. What's your thoughts on this model pros & cons ?

You'll see posts & responses like...

I think you should buy the S&W model 686 because it's stainless.

I think the Smith & Wesson model 66 would work because I really like mine.

The Colt Cobra is more easy to carry thats' why I have mine.

Yea but you can't beat the penetration of a .22.

What kind of .22 ammo do you use.

I buy my .22 ammo at wallmart it's cheaper there.

Speakin' about cheaper, Did you see the price Wallmart is charging for tires ?

I just bought a set of 225-60-16's for my car. What a deal.

What kind of car do you have that takes those size tires ?

I'm driving a Ford Taurus. You should see my other car. Let me post a pic for you.

Wow that's a great car... what the HeII is this thread about anyway ?
Must be about a Taurus.

Ohhh what the heck. Can't beat 'em, shoot 'em.

Getting people to stay on topics is like herding cats (this is not an invitation to talk about our favorite felines).

Now back to our previously scheduled topic. ;)

There aren't many neutral opinions on the Python. Either they are an over-priced, fragile gun or the absolute pinnacle in what a revolver can and should be. I am a recent convert to the Python tend toward the later view after my own experiences.

A 50th anniversary Python would be a revolver I'd love to own if it were made as they once were. Those who complain about the cost of the Python should buy something else although the most recent list price of the Elite is in the same ball park as the S&W PC revolvers. And the S&W PC guns are chock full of MIM parts and have the lock.

...well, being primarily a Smith & Wesson fan, I STILL recognize the "Python" for the SUPERB piece it is...at least, in the OLDER versions...speaking of older versions, I wonder what my '67 production blue six-incher, with box, papers and factory test target is worth these days...any ideas???....mikey357

Depending on condition and original grips/stocks.
All being correct and like NEW.
Depending on how bad someone wants it, it would go between $1100-$1300 would be my guess.

WOW!!!...mine is 98-99%...has been shot, but just barely...has the original grips, as well as some "Rogers" synthetic and some rubber Hogue's...WOW!!!....mikey357

It's a welfare thing. Most of us probably wouldn't understand.

Yeah, well from a marketing perspective I can see why. It is cheaper to feed at the government teat than go out in the marketplace and try to satisfy fickle consumers. Less marketing expense that way. Of course every gun company that went that route nearly or did go tits up.

"Someone will post a genuine question like... I'm thinking about buying a Taurus model 608."

And we'll say "Get a Python" or maybe "Think harder" or maybe we don't know a thing about the Tauri so we'll ignore them. Some questions have just about been beat to death so we fuss and fume to pass the time...just like regular folks.

I wonder what a Norinco-built Python would look like.

If you read my start to this thread, you will find it's never even been mentioned before. A 50th anniversary Python.
As far as the made up Taurus question goes, not everyone has been on this board since the 1800's.
I ask questions that maybe common to someone that has a specific gun, but I've maybe never owned. So to me, it's not a simple question.

I myself, like to learn.
Some like to just moan and think they know everything.

I imagine if you know everything there is to know about every gun, you should be bored and should not be wasting your time with people that are not as smart about the subject, or better yet, allow the people that don't know EVERYTHING to learn what they need so they can better themselves.
Don't just sit around and wine when you could be helping others. Don't be so Dam selfish.

There is some wonderful people on this and the other gun boards that are always willing to help someone in this hobby. They are willing to share their knowledge and help when they can. Even if it's a simple question. To those people I take my hat off and say thanks, thank you very much. You've made my life and many others easier with your knowledge.
For those that just complain... what ever... not worth my time.

Jeff (GUNKWAZY)

I just now went back and read your first post. You know, there wasn't a question in it. Not one. You made a comment, then other folks posted their comments pertaining to the title of the thread "It's a shame about the Python... " Sounds like a normal conversation to me.

I wonder what a 50th Anniversary Python made by Taurus would look like?
