Colt Python save it or shoot it.

I am the proud owner of a few snakes, (cobra, diamondbacks) including a like-new Python.

I shoot it. In the winter I carry it. Often I carry it on the trail.

If I had one of the a few remaining pristine Pythons I would feel obliged to preserve it. But since there is probably no other "modern" weapon that is more often a "safe queen" I prefer to enjoy it.

Some people think that I am a bit off because my daily carry is a Colt Diamondback 2.5 inch. My theory is "who deserves it more?"

YMMV
You guys have persuaded me to shoot the barrel out. I have never really been good at storing anything. I love my 686 and am sure that this will be just as great. Too bad that I do not have anything with a smaller barrel for carry.

You gotta shoot it. Threat yourself to some luxury before you die.

There is definitely something to be said about THIS point of view. My Dad scrimped and saved all his life.... when he passed away, I was shocked by what he had accumulated. I was equally shocked with the behavior of his wife. But that is another story... But it is hard to teach old dogs new tricks and it is good to treat yourself sometimes. What difference does it really make if you shoot it (but take care of it) and you later die and the gun sells for a couple hundred dollars less?

Maybe I need to reconsider my approach to such things....

Colt's are not very common in my neck of the woods. The Smiths are far more available and more popular. But I am always able to amaze my fellow-sportshooters with the feel and the crisp-action of mine.

Both in single and double action - it's regarded by almost all as a very enjoyable piece of hardware ( except from the guy with an Astra... still haven't figured that one out yet... ).

I say shoot it, but take care of it. I have a 6 inch early 70's Python that had a custom trigger job done on it at some point in its life. There are not words to describe the feeling of shooting it, some people might describe it as smooth as glass, slick as ice is probably closer to the truth.

You will love shooting it! I an 8" Anaconda...she shoots straight! I took this doe at 60 yards with it. Doe went 20 feet and keeled over. I can shoot 4" groups at one hundred yards just with iron sights.

That is some very impressive shooting, thanks for the post.
