Would You Trade A Colt Python?

It's up to you, but do yourself a favor and check the auction sites for how much Pythons and 686 are going for. To put it another way, the guy who swaps his 686 for your Python is going to be a very, very happy person.

A Collector's Item

I want a revolver too carry in the woods and to shoot frequently. I purposely don't take the python out because it is so valuble and I am not collecting guns as an investment.

lol..put it this way...if you want to do that trade, I'll go buy any 686 you want and trade you for a python

:D Yeah , unless the Python was pulled out of a river it will be worth far more than any 686. And this is coming from a 686 owner!

Would make no sense in trading a gun worth so much for one with much less value? Simply sell the Python yourself and buy a 686 and still have a lots of money left over.

Bulltace---After all that advice, if you still want to trade, I have a 686-3(6inch barrel) with Bianchi holster, 3 speed loaders, 4 sets of grips including original wood, box, S&W soft case, etc. I would be willing to trade.

I have nothing but S&W's but I didn't need to read any farther than the title to say NO!!!

When I was younger, I couldn't afford one, now I can afford one I can't find one

Keep the Python!~!

bulltaco....if you desperately want to part with the Python...DON'T TRADE IT...sell it at market value, then buy TWO 686's with the money. ;)

Would you trade your garage kept Roll Royce for a Ford Taurus just because you want a car to drive back and forth to work everyday?

BTW....... let me know exactly what you want in a M686 and I will get it and make the trade with you. :D

Keep The Python
Keep it, shoot it, put it in the will so your kids can shoot it too.

I too have a 686 4" I'd be happy to trade you. If you haven't figured it out by now with all of the Excellent advice you've been given I'l say it one more time.

"You have a Classic. Keep it."

I Guess I'll Keep It!

Just got back from Davis' Guns in Raleigh. I handled a 686 and Ruger GP100. Both guns were really nice but neither pistol could compare to the Python in terms of action smoothness. The blue finish on my Python is worn to about 80% but the lockup is tight and the trigger pull breaks so sweetly. Everybody was complimenting how classic the Python was.

The sales associate called a friend who works nearby and collects Pythons. He came over to the store and took a look at my pistol. He told me that it was worth about $500 based on the Hogue grips and worn finish. He did tell me that it was a fine gun to carry and shoot and that it was not as fragile as I believed. If it did get out of time he recommended a local gunsmith, in Wendell, NC who could make it right again.

So I guess I'll keep the Colt and use it like it was made for and enjoy the fact that I do have a Colt Python. I'll stash away some of my beer money and in a few months I can buy the 686 6" if I still want it. I think I might.

A big Thanks to all you guys on The High Road. I appreciate your opinions!
Keep yer powder dry and check yer 6.
kenny.....aka Bulltaco

I would sell it and buy the 686. Your colt is probably worth $600 plus. The salesman that stated it was only worth $500 because of the grips is an idiot. You may be able to get two 686s for one Colt.

Your decision to keep the Python is the proper one. I have two Pythons and a 686. Each has its purposes. The Pythons are for normal every day carry and the 686 was for uniformed duty when I did private security. While I like the 686 I love my Pythons.

$500 for an 80% Python without factory grips? Where do you live? I'm taking a road trip to that neighborhood. The day of the $500 Python came and went ten years ago, during the high point of the wondernine, and it's not coming back. Hang on to that sucker.

$500? Yeah where do you live? Around my neck of the woods Pythons like yours go for around $800+, if I could even find one, which is rare.

People who have them tend to hold onto them. Good choice to keep the Python. If I was fortunate enough to have one you can bet I would hold onto it and use it. Colt isn't making them anymore, so no matter how much you shoot it, it will go up in value as long as you take reasonably good care of it. Enjoy it and happy shooting!:)
