I did a quick search on this and didn't see anything obvious. Has anyone else noticed that the Colt 2020 Python seems to more resemble a Colt "BOA" than a traditional Python? The BOA had a slightly beefier Trooper frame and action with a Python barrel. The BOA also had a serrated (vs. checkered) hammer, just like the 2020 Python. The BOA also had the front screw set more forward on the sideplate, like the 2020 Python does. I just thought that comparison was interesting.

My "Walking Dead" super-fan wife wants a 6" 2020 Python, so I've been studying them, but I'm not about to pay what they're going for now in these crazy times. I do hope they'll have fixed whatever lockwork problems the early ones seemed to have by the time we're ready to buy one...I imagine they will have.

The "fix" for the lockwork problems seems to be simply keeping the sideplate screws tight. The factory is applying thread-lock to the screws to facilitate that, but I found simply tightening the screws has worked in my case. So far they haven't worked loose again. If they do, a little dab of Lock-Tite should fix the problem.

And yes, Colt did "beef up" the frame on the 2020 Python. The hammer is not checkered.

Just for your wife. :D

And to shamelessly show off. ;)

Show off all you want, I’ll gladly keep looking at it! I’m going to have one in the next couple years, and I’m glad you’ve been enjoying yours based off your other posts.

I have to believe that the ultimate fix has more to do with lockwork than loose screws...because screws do loosen. Either way, I think they'll get it sorted.

I was just more amused that the new 2020 Python seems to bear a closer resemblance to the Lou Horton BOA of old than the classic Python.

Believe me sir, having a loose screw or two can cause all kinds of problems. Ask anyone that knows me.....
Oh sorry, I guess you were talking about the revolvers.

So are the 2020 colt revolvers all fixed now?

Also how is the stainless polish compared to the python of old?

Not really seeing it. The Boa has the same ugly forward droop in the shape of the trigger guard as all of the later Colt revolvers, but the new Python has the same classic kidney bean-shaped trigger guard as the old. To my eyes, this vastly outweighs the visual effect of the other things you mentioned.

I think it's a meld. I think the new Python 2020 design is probably stronger in the frame and lockwork department (like the Trooper/BOA). The hammer is definitely more "BOA". The barrel is Python, but I hope they've solved the cosmetic issues with the crowns. Or else go without crowns. Most Pythons don't have crowns and never missed them.
