I have a chance to buy a Colt Python 6" barrel in .357 which is supposedly in like new condition. This is a FTF buy. He is asking $600. Looking on Gunbroker this seems like a pretty good deal. If it is in good shape, should I get it?

That's one of those too good to be true kinds of deals from what I've read.

If it's legit.
Stop posting and start buying.
Don't walk .... RUN !!!

Got it for $550. Made in 1979. Seems tight and timing looks good. Very little wear on the blueing and the bore looks clean and bright. He kept the zippered pouch though.

Screw the $5 pouch, you just stole a Python.
Now where's the pictures of this score ?

Congrats.

It seems like a sweet gun, haven't shot it yet but it is not as smooth as my S&W 29 in 44 mag. Trigger drop is about the same but the Smith just seems smoother. There is a definite difference in double action between the two, but I can't quantify it. I think I like the Smith trigger better. But proof is in the pudding, can't wait to shoot it.

I have both a python and a smith 629 .44 mag. I like the smith trigger too, but if you like it better than a python trigger then you might just want to have that python trigger looked at.

The Colt trigger does tend to get heavier near the rearward end of the stroke. Perhaps this "stacking" is what you're feeling. Its innards could be dirty or devoid of lubrication as well. If there is actually a mechanical problem (unlikely), the purchase price was low enough that you can have it repaired and still be ahead of the game.

You should be arrested!

This person truly didn't know the value of the gun. I hope it was a good friend or relative that gave you such a good deal. It's quite possibly worth twice what you paid for it. Have you gone to confession recently?

Does this guy have any more guns for sale?:D

I have a friend with a stainless Python that is incredible. The two best revolver triggers I have ever felt are on that Python, and on my Dad's Dan Wesson .357. They are both amazing.

Very nice pick-up....I'm buying the same thing, only an 82 vintage, and I dropped $900....

I just saw an identical Python for $850 at a gunshow and I was tempted. If it wasn't for my priorities of getting EBRs and high cap mags, I'd have bought it. You got a GREAT deal. I think that you could reasonble get $900 for one.

I sold a 1979 Python on consignment just like that and the trigger was soooo smooth and light that I wouldnt recommend it on any DA revolver. For target shooting though it is perfect.

BTW I sold the thing for 1300 without the box or papers but the gun was easily 99% condition royal blue finish.

Lubed up the gun with some breakfree and it is much smoother. I have to admit it does have a very good trigger, but I still love my S&W 29!

Nice find on the Python. I almost bought one today at a gun show. It was the blued 4 inch model. I passed because the price was a little too rich for my blood. They wanted $1250 and it had some wear on the bluing around the cylinder where it rotates around. I'm keeping my eye out for one too.
