I would like to replace the Collet Bushing on my Colt 1911 Mark 4 Series 70 with a new solid barrel bushing. Not being a gunsmith, but handy with tools I'm wondering how much if any Fitting will be required and any tips for installing a new bushing....

Help please..............thank you so much.

I've used 3; 2 went in without issue while the third required a light kiss with a fine file to touch-up the lug. Note that if you go for your exact measurements, you'll require a bushing wrench for removal. If you want it only finger tight, you can back off the measurements a bit but, as long as there's no barrel spring, tight is best.

Remember that tolerances can stack enough to require fitting. As Canuck states, adjustments are bound to be minor and my EGW bushing went on the S80 GM with just a few brushes of sandpaper and lapping compound. I stopped as soon as a bushing wrench was no longer needed.

Keep in mind it's easy to take off too much....

Good luck!

If it has the OEM barrel, you'll probably want to reduce the length of the enlarged area behind the muzzle, or you'll likely run into problems with the barrel dropping in time to let the slide run past it if you use a tightly-fitted bushing.

Hmmmmm.......this seems it could be getting a little complicated....just thought I could massage the new bushing if necessary with some emry if needed to help it fit...as I said, I'm not a gunsmith....just handy.

It's not difficult, plus it's a very inexpensive upgrade - if you aren't satisfied, you're not out very much.
