I just traded locally for a Colt upper. This is for my kiss rifle.

Specs:

A2 20"
Bayo lug and flash hider
Bolt marked "C"
Upper marked "C M"
Bolt with circle "C"
FSB is a "B" in a diamond
Appears the forward assist is larger than my other ARs

Barrel is C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7. Appears to be a HBAR, but when you pull the hand guards it is govt profile underneath.

Nothing appears to have been modified/tinkered/bubbad.

This is my first Colt upper. My concern is the gas key is not staked. Is this normal for Colt? I know how to stake it, I just wonder if its necessary? Does Colt do anything different than other AR manufacturers in this regard? There are no tool marks inside the hex screws that hold the key on and the same amount of wear as on the carrier rails. Nothing to hint that its been replaced or messed with.

I savvy ARs and have built many, but no experience with Colt. Any and all info is appreciated.
Also need the link on BSZ for a 20" at 25m.

I have never seen a Colt gas key that wasn't staked very throughly.

It would not pass Colt acceptance tests if it wasn't.

The other thing that is killing me, is that while I am legally allowed to shoot in my backyard, the church across the street from me is still in session.

I try to maintain a positive image of gun owners. I feel it would be rude to let off a mag. Sometimes its not easy being a good neighbor.(sigh)

Yes I would stake the gas key.

Barrel and upper sound correct for Colt.

Not sure whats up with the bolt carrier group. One possibly two things raise suspicions.

Can't tell much from the pictures, better pictures would help. But the forward cap screw head on the gas key looks shinny on the head, and lacks depth and is to flat. It looks like it has been turned down on the head for fitment from an improper cap screw from my view. It appears someone been screwing with this, Colt always stakes the gas key.

Sorry camera is in need of replacement 5 year old Wal-Mart special. That is just the reflection off the CLP that I liberally applied.

Side by side comparison to my Stag (that I had to properly stake) and my RRA reveal the same depth of the screws in relation to the key. The other two notable differences are the firing pin is not shrouded on the Colt and the bottom near the back has less metal on the Colt.

I know the pics leave a lot to be desired. Top is Colt, middle Stag, bottom RRA in all pics.

I will stake it. What is the torque for these?
