Colt woodsman 1st Issue made in 1928. That is the original finish and grips. I paid $750.00 and that included the original box. I didn't quibble. I gladly paid what the seller was asking. I can only shoot target grade 22L.R. through it since it was made before Colt came out with the improved mainspring housing, but that's okay. I don't plan on shooting it that often. That's why I have a Browning Buckmark.

I have owned and used a Woodsman for over 50 years.

I woods carry barrel up, chamber empty in my back pocket.

When taking a long shot I steady the barrel with my finger and thumb in front of it's trigger guard.

I have an identical Woodsman, but made in 1938. Mine has the high-velocity mainspring housing, and it shoots high velocity ammo very well.

I've often wanted a shoulder stock for it -- it's as accurate as any .22 rifle I've ever owned, and would make a great squirrel gun, especially for a back packer.

I like Woodsman too!

Heres mine.

Left to Right.
1927 6 5/8" Medium barrel Target model, w/HS mainspring housing.
1936 Woodsman First Series 4 1/2" Sport model, w/HS mainspring housing.
1965 6" Targetsman = No serrations or markings, but High-Speed rated.
1976 4 1/2" Match Target = Full linear grooves, but High-Speed rated.

(I need a better picture!)

IMO: The 1936 Sport model is the best one of the bunch!!
