Today I took out one of my 1851 navy's that are pictured in my profile picture.
Last night I changed the hammer and bolt and dressed the arbor a tad.
I used a 15 grain spout that on average was throwing 17.5 grains old eyensford when weighed.
Colts cartridge works bullets weighed in around 122 grains cast with scrap lead someone on muzzleloading forum had cast into ingots.
Point of aim was smear of bullet lube at bottom of target paper.
Distance was around 15 yards. Offhand duelist style
These were a group from 2 cylinders.
I shot 3 cylinders total but the first cylinder shot didnt even hit the target. I then moved point of aim to the very bottom of page and was able to make contact with target.
All in all I love these bullets and they shot extremely well.
I would say that accuracy wise out of this gun they shot as accurate if not more accurate then round ball.
I still prefer round ball but it was awesome to experience shooting a colt style bullet out of a ASM 1851 Navy near identical to the 1st gen navys.
I prefer round ball for ease of loading and with 25 grains of OE behind it that 80 ish grain round ball is moving well at a tad over 1000fps and is certainly nothing to sneeze at.
