Got out to the range today with my 1851 Colt Navy, .36 caliber by Pietta.

Shot nice groups today.

I used 20 grains FFFG Goex, Ox-Yoke wonder wad and a .376 round ball from Dixie Gun Works.

Here's a shot at one of my targets...

Love this gun!

Thanks Scrat! This is my first pistol -- I got it in February. I shot 42 rounds through her today and every single one went off without a hitch (no misfires)!

The TRESO nipples I got for it work wonderfully with the #11 Remington caps.

Still learning the ropes in terms of my firing stance and grip, but am starting to get the hang of it.

I got the Pietta on sale at Dixie Gun Works for $185. I am very pleased with it so far.

Wall; Wow-- nice purchase. Was that target shot from seven yards, twenty five yards, or two hundred yards while in mid air, diving behind cover? (I want to know how impressed to be) ;)

I think you'll find that the trigger will sweeten up with further use, too. Mine did.

all i can tell you is that they are very addicting. Soon you will be buying a second then a third. Its so fun. best part is taking 3 loaded black powder revolvers to the forward bench at the range. Then capping them off. By the time you pull the trigger the third time everyone is looking after the 6th shot they go back to what they are doing then you start off again with another. Eventually you have people waiting for you to finish so they can talk to you and ask you what the heck are you shooting.

House brand balls?

Did you use the Dixie brand balls that come in a cloth bag? I ordered some, but they were so inconsistently cast that I sent them back.

25 yards

All shots were fired at 25 yards.

And, yes, I used the .376 balls from DGW. Some of them were not cast properly, but all in all, most of the balls were okay.

I ordered two bags. One held 101 and one held 99. So far, so good. However, the bag with 101 had numerous scraps, maybe sprues, included, so I figured that if they were packed by weight, not counted, then the 101 must have had serious voids. (I could see that many did have voids.) I just didn't have faith that they would perform consistently. Did you shoot the defective balls, set them aside to be melted down, or put them in your tackle box for use as sinkers?

.376 balls

I did shoot the defective balls. They shot fine -- most of the additional slag came off when I rammed the ball home.

Overall, as you can see from the target, they performed well.

Pietta and Uberti nipples are generally not interchangable as Pietta uses a metric thread (M6x0.75) and Uberti uses either: 12x28 or 1/4x28 depending on the gun.

Many online retailers sell Treso nipples. Two I've used are Track of the Wolf and The Possible Shop.

Nipples

I got my TRESO nipples from The Possibles Shop. You can also get them on the Track of the Wolf website.
