I own a glock 27 and find it rather unplesant to carry. My current holster is an IWB (crossbreed holster) and it is by far the best I have tried, but still not very nice to tote all the time.

For those who own both, how much more comfortable is the Shield or other similar sized gun to carry, esp IWB?

I read somewhere, I think it was Clint Smith form Thunder Ranch, that "carrying a weapon was not meant to be comfortable but comforting". Anyway, I would think the Shield, being a smaller gun, should be more comfortable.

The thickness makes a lot of difference, the difference in length etc not so much. You will feel the difference without a doubt.

The shield will fit in a lot of pockets which is more comfortable than iwb or owb for me.Glock 27 is wide and when loaded much heavier than the shield.

I would also go with the Shield as being more comfortable to me to both use and carry than the Glock.

Huh...I often carry a G26 in a simple kydex IWB clip on, and forget it is even there.
Yet, it is, and it shoots like a full sized pistol, even out to longer ranges.

I've found I'm carrying the Shield a lot more lately. As mentioned, the Glock is blocky and heavy but does have ammo capacity advantage. The Shield is much more comfortable in both 4 o clock and appendix carry because it's thin.

The shield is much more comfy to carry, but I don't think it handles or shoots as well as my G27. I use the Galco Kingtuk, and that seems to be the best way to go about it. After a lot of time carrying it, I have gotten used to the uncomfyness

Thanks guys, sounds like I am on the right track. I don't plan on selling the 27, but I carry all day at work (think 25 extra pounds of gear) and sometimes it is nice not to lug around uncomfortable gear. J-frame is nice, but I am thinking the Shield with an extra mag gives a lot more firepower.

Try a DeSantis Cozy Partner for comfort. A DM Bullard Dual Carry or Milt Sparks VM 2 Glock 19 holster would be very comfortable. I like anything with split loops to distribute the load, but the G27 is so small that the difference does not matter to me.

Do switch to a Comp Tac kydex reinforced belt for carry. I use it regardless of gun carried. I find it to be far superior to standard leather over time.

The Shield is not giving you more firepower. It does get you into easier pocket carry with the faster semi-auto reload. That said, the G27 can be pocket carried in khacki style pants. I stuff a rag in there to break up the outline of the slide (near the sights). This works well. The thinner Shield will give you more leeway at the cost of capacity and perhaps some shootability.

You should buy one because...guns!

I am not up on my Glocks(never owned one), but wouldn't it be fairer to compare the Glock 27 to a M&PC?

Maybe just me, but I always thought it was weird to compare a single stack toa double stack gun. Maybe I am missing something here......

I don't have a G27, but I have a M&P9C and a Shield. The compact carries ok in a Don Hume IWB, but the Shield is much more comfortable in an all day (12+ hours) situation.

The Shield is much more comfortable, hands down and not much of a sacrifice in firepower.
I still carry the 27 some times but not as often because of the comfort difference. They both fit in the same N82 IWB holster which is cool.

I dont own a shield but my Beretta Nano is about the same size. I do own a Glock 27. The Beretta conceals and carries significantly better than the Glock! BUT if I could only have one it would be the Glock. I shoot it as well (better in some cases) than any full size pistol and I can use full size 15 round Mags in it. If you can afford to have both then go for it, but if it's one or the other I'd go Glock.

Never handled a Shield, but carry a G26 (same size/weight as G27) daily, comfortably. I use a Sidearmor IWB Kydex holster @ about 11:30. Works for me. I did replace the crappy J-Hooks that Sidearmor supplied, as they kept breaking. I had a one-piece J-hook made by a guy who makes holsters, mag holders, etc., out of Kydex.

GLock 27 v Shield

The Shield / Nano / Kahr P series pistols will all be more comfortable to carry than the Glock. The GLock is quite a bit thicker all the way around and will not be as comfortably concealable as the single stacked mag pistols.

Good responses. To clarify, I currently have the 27 and am looking at getting a Shield but don't intend on selling the glock.

Carry what you like...but, to reiterate, my G26 just disappears under a T-shirt and I forget it is there five minutes after I clip it on.
And, were I to need a firearm to defend myself, I would rather have that "thick" G26 in my hand than any of my smaller, thinner pocket options.
As another poster said, I shoot my G26 like a full sized pistol, with great accuracy to incredible distances and complete reliability.
Having a 10- or 12rd mag in the pistol with a 15rd G19 mag for a reload makes for a compact bundle of firepower.
