Colt Commander . Also look at Metro Arms They have a Commander and a bob tail commander . I have a Dan Wesson V BOB and the metro I handled rival my Dan Wesson for fit and finish for around 700 bucks . I could change any MIM and still save lots of money .

When choosing a commander 1911, your not going to get better than the original "colt commander". While others make a damn good copy, when it comes to commanders I like colt best. However STI makes some sexy commanders as well. Check them out

On Edit: Uhhmmm, I just remembered that nearly all the guns reviewed there are full-sized; probably not the best place for anyone to browse for a Commander.

Don't overlook the Ruger. I recently bought one and it is a great gun for the money.

The trouble with the Sigs is that their slides aren't the same shape as other 1911's. They are more squared off, which means they won't fit some of the standard 1911 holsters. They are nice guns, but a bit of a pain to find a holster for.
