I've posted this same question on the S&W forum, but I figure there might be folks who don't go to that forum. There's a lot of knowledge here. Anyway my father is a retired Idaho State Trooper (1973-1994). In 1989 when ISP was celebrating it's 50th birthday S&W manufactured commemorative 4" 686's for each individual trooper who wanted one (approximately 120 troopers at that time). Each trooper's 686 has his or her's badge number and the ISP emblem laser etched on it. The gun came in a wood presentation case with a glass top. Dad has never fired his and it's just like the day he got it. Out of curiosity any idea how much this might be worth? The fact of the matter is dad has made it clear when his time comes (hopefully not for many more decades) this piece, as well as all his others, will come to me. I'll never shoot it either, but well I'm just curious.
In case anyone is wondering , at the time ISP issued the Model 65 - not the 686. Guess the 686 is just a more impressive model to work up as a commemorative piece.
