Common Sense Question ?

Carried it on duty and off...
I did replace the barrel and springs some time ago though.

I know a few people around here that do carry rifles in their trucks.

There is always a Ruger Mini-14 stored in the locked "Ram Box" of my pickup and loaded magazines stored in the cab. It takes under ten seconds for me to access the carbine and load it; likely nine seconds too long in most likely scenarios-but not all of them. I keep a rifle in the truck because I often travel through many states/jurisdictions where a handgun might cause nasty and unnecessary criminal legal problems for me and long guns wouldn't.
There are times when I need to check in a motel in a sketchy part of town, for instance, when a rifle or shotgun in the room is a good alternative to having no gun at all. Most of the time I have a pistol, so the Mini-14 is redundant but there are not so free states in this Land of the Free where I simply will not tempt fate and I leave the handgun at home.
Call me paranoid but the reason I carry the Mini as opposed to, say an AR-15 or some such, is because for some people it is a more innocuous appearing firearm than a typical "black" gun.
