Compact 1911 - Springfield or Kimber?

Wow. 90%+ of vehicles sold in america are drive by wire and the plane I flew in the Navy was fly by wire. Just goes to show the ridiculousness of your argument. Your knowledge is based off stuff you read on forums on the internet. Opinions are fine and as stated, that is what orion was giving.

It was a joke.... if you know anything about the drive by wire systems then you know that Toyota's issue is not having a redundant system like the ones found in VW and other manufactures.

;)

I don't think this thread is "digressed into idiocracy" whatever that is. I hope it continues and we can all learn something.

I agree I thought discussion was one of the primary purposes for this forum. Sometimes when people discuss things they disagree. You and I have disagreed in the past on some points but have no animosity. We disagreed on somethings debated those points and then moved on. :D

Absolutely. You don't like Kimber, I do ... no big deal. As for other issues we've disagreed on ... I can't remember any so obviously it wasn't an issue. As you so rightly pointed out, we're not defined by the firearms that we own or choose. Education is the best tool that we have so threads like this might help others make a decision that's right for them. If a lot of MIM parts bothers someone, they should know that Kimber uses a lot of MIM parts before they buy one. Whether MIM parts means that a pistol or rifle will be unreliable is not so clear to me. I've never experienced a failure of a MIM part yet so have no data to draw on. I'm sure that there are people like me that have an intuitive (maybe uneducated) preference for forged parts over MIM or plastic/polymer but people resisted Glock when they came on the market but now Glock has millions of loyal and happy customers.

In an ultra sized 3" I would go with Kimber. In 4" Commander size I prefer Springfield YMMV

Back to the title of the original Post. I looked at the Kimber, a buddy had just bought a 4" with Aluminum frame, plastic main spring housing. While AL should be adequate, I felt I wanted a steel frame.
I went with the Springfield Ultra Comapct, it has a 3.5" barrel and short stack.
If I had seen a Colt in a 4" and short stack magazine all steel I would have considered it.

How about a 3.5" all steel Colt?

Wow.........

Walkalong, that Colt is exactly what the Doctor ordered FOR ME. You have a great pistol there.

If you care to, we can argue about how nice it is..........:D

Walkalong. That's a SWEET colt. I didn't know Colt made a 3.5"

Windsor311. I think it's nicer than you think it is. :neener:

I would vote Colt Defender. So far mine has been perfect, except for the occasional casing to the head from the funky ejecting it sometimes does. The only Kimber I've ever shot was a friend's Concel Carry II and it was really nice, but had some FTF issues. He said it was probably the magazines, but I'll always vote for the gun that doesn't have any issues. Besides, it's a Colt.. Who doesn't want a 1911 Colt?

Either company would suit you well.

Buy which ever particular gun feels best in your hand.

The let the gun pick you! ; )
