Compact 45 acp help?

The only one of those I've shot is the XD Compact. My Dad has one and he loves it and has had no problems. I shot it very well the few times I've tried it and what really made an impression on me was the grip circumference vs. capacity. It fit my medium size hand with stubby fingers very well yet holds quite a bit more than my Kahr PM45. I like the PM45 because it fits in most of my pockets, but the XD with the shorter magazine wouldn't seem so hard to conceal and it has a substantial feel and function to it.

Historically I've carried a 4" 1911 in .38 Super... until I bought a Springfield XDs in .45ACP. Just like 460Kodiak in the second post, I found the XDs to be great for carry. It's not the handful to shoot that you'd think it would be in that small a gun either.

Although it's fine in stock form, I added a Powder River spring kit to mine and it did precisely what I wanted to the trigger and it remains 100% functional.

Great little carry pistol.

I only have experience with the O.P.'s list ( Welcome Crayfish )
with the S&W M&P45C I've shot other M&Ps and like the trigger
and grip. I also liked a review by Hickock45 with the XDm 3.8
in .45 ACP. Having the 4506 & DA Revolver going to a striker
fired ignition system should be easy.

My choice = Springfield Armory Range Officer Compact 4" Bbl.
on the Officers frame 7+1 Wilson COmpact mag.

I own the Glock 30SF which is a nice compact carry piece. The 30S may be better. I'd go with either one over the Springfield XDS for a few reasons.

1) The Glocks have more firepower 9+1 or 10+1 and the ability to carry a backup 21 mag with 13 rounds is a nice plus over a 5+1.

2) Felt recoil, the Glock 30 series have significantly less felt recoil with a lower bore axis making it easier to get follow up shots on target than the XDS. My Glock 30SF kicks less than my 4" 1911 did.

3) More reliable. The Glock 30 Series are proven platforms, while the XDS has had some issues even post recall. And the recall was a biggie. While it's possible to get a reliable XDS, I still have seen way to many returned to the service department considering the percentage of them on the market.

If you like the 4506, May I suggest a used Ruger P345?

I installed a lighter hammer spring for a lighter DA pull, and added a firmer recoil spring to cushion the kick. Now I enjoy my P345 as much as my old 645. Much lighter than the giant Smith, and more familiar than, say, a Colt Officers Model.

PS
Nothing wrong with a Glock 30 or the sweet DAO Sig P250.

I like obscure guns, so I figured I'd throw in my point of view for a compact style .45 ACP

-EAA Witness Compact
-Stoeger Cougar 8045

If you want fullsize, I LOVE the Ruger SR45... if only there were an SR45c

If you're not exclusively looking at polymer-frame and/or striker-fired guns, the Bersa Thunder UC Pro 45 has a good reputation at a street price of well under $400 in your choice of two-tone or all-black finish. Alloy frame, steel slide, DA/SA, ambidextrous controls, rail for light/laser, 27 oz, three-dot sights interchangeble with Sig Sauer sights if you want to add night sights.

Taurus PT145 Mil Pro

My carry 45 is the Taurus PT145 Mil Pro, 10+1, striker fired, polymer frame, compact. Earlier this week, I put another 90 rounds through it at my local range. Shooting (standing) at a torso sized target at 50 feet, all 90 rounds were either on or nearby POA. The Hiene sights do take some getting used to but once you figure them out, she's a more than adequate gun for its intended purpose.

In addition to the PT145, my carry gun/home defense pieces are the PT140 (40 S&W), Ruger SR9E, Tristar C100 (CZ75 Compact), Rossi 88, S&W 36 and Sig P238.

It took some time for me to take the plunge into the polymer framed striker fired guns but have no regrets since acquiring my first, the PT145. I subsequenty added the PT140 and the Ruger SR9E both for different reasons. I have no plans to add similiar guns to my locker, I just don't see anything out there that will do better than what I have for my needs in carrying or home defense.

HK45 Compact for me right now. I'm anxiously awaiting the Sig P320 Compact in 45.

ATI Titan here. Inexpensive, reliable compact that has been an EDC and weekly shooter for a while. Held up in recent class when more expensive guns went down.

Crayfish: If I were U I would try to find another 4513. I carry a S&W 457, 4513TSW, 4516-2 or 4516. From time to time. I prefer S&W 3rd Generation compact 45ACPs for personal defense. Just my 2 cents.

SAFE SHOOTING ALWAYS.

MR835 IS GONE

One of my primary CCW guns is my Kahr CW45. Slim profile, light, Smoooooth DA trigger pull. 6+1. Main carry ammo is Gold Dot 200 gr. +P JHP.
