I'm thinking of getting a sub-compact .45 ACP. I currently have 2 Colt 1911s, a Kimber, and a Sig P220 in .45.

I'm open to all action types. The primary requirement is outstanding reliability.

This will be for when I can't carry normally. Most common carry methods will be tuckable IWB and SmartCarry.

I don't really know what's out there. I was hoping for something close to the size of my Glock 26.

Recommendations anyone?

My Kimber Ultra Carry (pre-Series II) has almost 3,000 rounds through it without an issue. I've shot FMJ, HP, LSWC, LRN, both factory and reloads. It has been utterly reliable.

I too have a Colt Defender. It is my daily carry gun and I have complete faith in it. It just plain shoots... round after round. I was surprised by its accuracy too from the 3" barrel.

mini-45s are not all that reliable no matter what anyone says.

they can be made to be reliable and as accurate as full-size 1911s.

any decent smith can tune a mini to reliability and accuracy standards.

but, don't expect any mini to be as reliable or accurate as a full-size out-of-the-box.

SA XD45c, it shoots anything you feed it right out of the box. I personally have a 4" service model, carry it OWB without any problems. I've had it over a year now with over a 1000 rds.thru it without a failure of any kind.

havent shot one but i bet that compact singlestack by glock will be a great bet

Oh? Which have you owned, loop, that have been unreliable?

Not sure of its reliability, but the Kahr PM45 is right in this size range. Kahrs (I have two in 9mm) are generally reliable.

In any of these subcompact .45s, the magazine is working very hard to push the heavy cartridge up in time to be stripped off by the very fast-moving slide, so the odds are less in favor of getting a reliable one than its full-sized counterpart.

+1 on the Glock 30, except mine doesn't like really lite .45 loads. Not enough oompth to move the slide enough.

Bersa UC45...several hundred rounds so far and *no* stoppages whatsoever. Doesn't seem to get much better than that.

I routinely carry a G30 or G36, depending on what I'm wearing, weather, etc.

both are accurate, easy to conceal, reasonably comfortable to shoot, and reliable as heck.

they do take a little practice, to overcome the recoil vs. light weight and small frame.

Colt Defender

My Colt Defender has been reliable through about 600 rounds so far. It is flat enough to work well inside the waistband.

Well lets see besides the Defender and New Agent from 1st post. I have a Detonics and a Colt officer acp . Gee they work also Guess I just a lucky guy. They work and are accurate.
How many have you owned I bet 0 just repeating internet talk. Many many people now own the compacts and finding them relieable.

I would recommend the Taurus PT145, pretty much the smallest 10+1 45acp out there and mine has been 100% with everything I have fired,

Mr. Mater Dei,

All of them. That includes Colt, Kimber, Wilson, SIG and Kahr.

Which ones have you owned that were 100 percent and shot to POA?

Do you want serial numbers as well?

Why would you challenge my simple statement?

Micahel T,

You expect I have 0 experience with the platform and caliber?

You have no respect. Fail on your own.

Normally I am a 1911 guy and will say find an early Detonics.

But I find myself carrying the Glock 36 more and more.
