For discrete carrying, my Walther PPS is perfect for me. It's the right balance between weight, accuracy, carry-ability, width, and general shootability.

However, I've been searching for that perfect larger gun...perhaps having more rounds. Over time, I've accumulated a few that find their way into my holster, but I never really did a head-to-head shootout. I'm not an expert. I have not tried every gun out there. The prices are just what I've seen. You may find for more or less. I'm just a guy who happens to have these four guns. All 9mm. Take this for what it's worth. Hopefully my pics will load.

The guns tested:
CZ Compact SDP
-This is a P-01 from the CZ custom shop
-DA/SA hammer
-28.1 oz empty
3.75" barrel
7.2" OAL
5.03" ht
1.38" wide
14+1 capacity
$1200
New one month ago. About 500 rounds through it.

Excellent trigger. Heinie Straight Eights provide good sight picture.
Gun feels wide due to controls. Flippy when firing.

Sig P239
DA/SA hammer
29.5 oz empty
3.6" barrel
6.6" OAL
5.2" Ht
1.2" wide
8+1 capacity
$850
Bought new in 2010. Several thousand rounds through it.

Excellent trigger. Excellent sight picture. Second most accurate of the test with both sight aquisition and rapid fire.
Heavy for only 9 total rounds.

Glock 19 Gen 4
Striker fired
23.65 oz
4.01" barrel
7.36" OAL
4.99" ht
1.18" wide
15+1
$539
Bought new 1 month ago. First time firing it. However, this is my fifth G19 in four years, so I'm used to them.

Accuracy was decent. Stayed on target better than above two. Good sight picture.
Shoots left (like all Glocks for me and I haven't yet adjusted). Not the best on target (finding center I mean)

Walther P99AS
Striker Fired with Decocker
24oz
4" barrel
7.1" OAL
5.3" ht
1.3" width
15+1
$510
Bought new a year ago. 500-1000 rounds fired

Best accuracy (however, I did install and then adjust night sights). Best first shot. Best follow-up accuracy. Best ergonomics.
Long handle for carry.

Each gun fired 50 rounds of 124gr Blazer Brass. Pictures (as I can load them) reflect first 16 from each. Indoor range, targets placed at 25 internet yards (21 feet). Two mags of eight rounds loaded for each. Gun on table. Gun from table to rounds on target in one motion (not permitted to draw from holster at this range). If I only had one gun, any of these are excellent choices. I paid the most for the CZ SDP so I thought for sure it would be the chosen one. I wanted it to be. But if not, I had trusty old Sig to shine as it has for many years for me. In the end, it was my most non-descipt, least expensive P99AS that stole the show. The gun just felt good in the hand. It hit where I pointed and the follow-up shots were spot on.

Walther makes some terrific shooting pistols as you have found. My PPS is my main CCW and I was stunned show well I can shoot with it and exactly on center of target if I do my part. Soft shooter too.

I have the PPQ 9MM and another terrific pistol.

Good comparison BTW!

Thank you. I need to get a PPQ M1 while I still can.

I would definitely stick with Walther and get the P99 AS. EXCELLENT trigger, ergonomics, and reliability at a very reasonable price. Plus you will have the consistency of the paddle mag release assuming your PPS is an M1 version. A PPQ M1 is also an excellent choice and the one I would pick. Best trigger on any polymer gun in production. Also has 17rd mags available. And if you end up with a P99 and PPQ M1 the mags from each are compatible. Pretty sweet.
