Compact USP question

Got a compact USP today in 9mm to match my full size - The recoil spring has some sort of red coloring on it - like red paint - is this normal?

None of my USP's have that on them. I would give it a good cleaning and seeif I could get that off.

Never mind - I spoke w/ a few people at the HK Pro website - many people have this - apparently, many of the 9mm USP compacts have this - the factory uses it to tell the 9mm springs apart from the rest of the calibers.

Neither on mine. Also my P2000 didn't come with that coloring on the spring.
Hoppe's 9 should be able to rid of the marker.

Well, it doesn't bother me - you can tell it is some kinda paint - it's too red to be rust. I just found it unsual. From what others have said, not all compact 9mm's have this, but many do. Thanks for the help.

My USP Compact 9mm has a red-painted recoil spring.
Never been a problem.

My new P2000 9mm has the same red recoil spring. Quite normal from everything I've gathered so far.

I have the hk uspc40 and mine had that red paint also so it can't be the 9 only theory.I do wish mine was a 9 though the 40 is not very accurate and it is very snappy on the recoil
