Never mind - I spoke w/ a few people at the HK Pro website - many people have this - apparently, many of the 9mm USP compacts have this - the factory uses it to tell the 9mm springs apart from the rest of the calibers.
Well, it doesn't bother me - you can tell it is some kinda paint - it's too red to be rust. I just found it unsual. From what others have said, not all compact 9mm's have this, but many do. Thanks for the help.
I have the hk uspc40 and mine had that red paint also so it can't be the 9 only theory.I do wish mine was a 9 though the 40 is not very accurate and it is very snappy on the recoil
