Congressman Trent Franks (R-Arizona) wrote a guest editorial in the June 2009 issue of Guns & Ammo where he essentially advised the anti AWB crowd to prepare ourselves for argument via educating ourselves. He quoted Margaret Thatcher: "first you win the argument, and then you win the vote."

I propose that we start an argument/talking-point thread here in an "pro AWB "quote" - anti AWB "response" format. It would also include recent issues in the media that those for an AWB are quoting right now, such as the shooting in Pittsburgh, PA by the 23 year old young man who shot several officers. I'm not sure what that specifically has to do with an AWB b/c to my knowledge, police never released any word about what weapon he used, only what he owned, but it's come up a few times now in arguments. I realize there have been other threads where talking points have been discussed, but a centralized one including talking points when current events come up would be nice (especially considering that whenever a current event comes up and somebody posts it, the thread gets locked almost immediately).

Anyways, I think that Mr. Franks makes an excellent suggestion and I believe that a sticky thread would be a great way for us to continually add to it and prepare ourselves to win the argument. If somebody comes across the editorial, please post it. I can't find it on the G&A site.
