Looking to buy a heavy barrel longer range AR. Interested in something along the lines of:

RRA

Varmit A4
or
Predator Pursuit rifle

Most likely with a 20" barrel. Which one would be the better choice and why? The Predator Pursuit rifle has the NM barrel and the Varmint A4 has the heavy bull barrel. Which one would you consider to be more accurate? Would a long barrel be a better choice?

Most likely used for punching paper at longer ranges.

Which one do you think is prettier? Buy that one. Other than that there will be no difference. Accuracy is great for both, but the bull barrel might take longer to heat up. If you are going to shoot 50 coyotes in one sitting then go with that one.

I don't understand the trend towards heavy barrels for hunting rifles. If I have to carry that heavy rifle I'm not going to be too happy.

Like you say though, this is for paper punching, so you probably won't be carrying it very far.

+1 on just choosing which looks better.

i'm not knocking RRA too much (I own several), but neither.

i don't like the twist, or the float tubes, the gas block, the heavy barrel, the fact that it's not threaded on the end, etc. only positive of either of them is the wylde chamber.

Pending the wind, my RRA, Varmit A4 with 24" barrel is capable of less than one-half MOA at 500 meters but I sure wouldn't want to carry it far.

heavy

I have a heavy barrled RRA and I carry it from the truck to the bench and back again. Dosen't bother me a bit.
I'm a little long in the tooth to carry much weight for long distances.
So I don't.

Get a Sabre Defense Industries Upper -- they are available in various configurations. Their 20 inch barrels have 1/7 twist and you can't really over-stabilize 55 grain to 77 grain bullet. Get any lower for now but the Sabre upper is your best bet.
