I'm in the process of purchasing an AR-10 or AR-10 variant .308. The two manufacturers I had considered were Armalite and DPMS. I was leaning towards the DPMS but just heard today that RRA will introduce their own AR-10 variant .308 this summer.

RRA has sent out their catalogs to some of their customers which contain pictures and pricing.

Pricing:
Varmint A4 $1,350
Standard
A2 $1,145
A4 $1,100
Mid-length
A2 $1,150
A4 $1,100

Has anybody heard anything about this gun? Will it be worth waiting for? Would you purchase the AR-10 or Panther .308 now or get the RRA .308 this summer?

Personally I will buy the DPMS version later on this year...reports are all very good on this rifle....hope the RRA gets good writeups also

Just got the dealers catalog today. It looks a lot like the defunct Bushmaster BAR-10. Takes FAL magazines. Ambi magazine and bolt release.

Did they buy the machining from Bushmaster or start from scratch?

Wow thats awesome...I was hoping Rock River would make a .308. Personally I would get the RRA over a DPMS anyday. I used to own a DPMS, and it was a terrible rifle. Always jammed.

personally I would buy either Armalite or DPMS and for me the DPMS will be my 308 version when I do decide to buy one.

Hmm... I'm doing a Rock River group buy during the month of February. I'm going to have to see what the ETA is, and if I can get them added to the order. Might be able to save you guys a little money on one of these.

A mid-length .308 AR sounds exciting to me; but not so excited about it using the FAL mag. I just don't see how that is going to work well over the long term.

Are you referring to the part of the bolt being unsupported so the narrow FAL mag can be used or is there another potential issue?

The FAL mag feeds differently than an AR mag. In order to use an AR bolt with an FAL mag, Bushmaster deleted one of the bolt lugs on the BAR-10 and apparently it still was particular about what magazines it liked.

I'd rather take a PTR-91 for a few hundred less, but that's cool that there is the option I guess.

Based on what I read on the Internet* RRA originally did the machining for the Bushmaster .308 variant and after Bushmaster decided that wasn't a marketable item; RRA decided to make some minor alterations and try to recoup the cost of tooling with a lower price (no middleman) and improvements they felt were necessary to success that Bushmaster did not want to pay for.

*Of course all of this info has the same value as any other crap you read on the Internet.

Pictures on page 4.

The Rock River Arms Mod. on ARFcom claims that the bolt issues have been addressed and that there will not be any problems.

Well, if he's the Rock River Mod, I doubt he would preface the release of a new rifle by saying "It's still a stinking piece of crap".

I still see the rifle as a goofy idea, that only made sense during the ban when mags were $80 a piece. If they make it work, that's great I guess, but the DPMS works and is several hundred less.

It looks a lot like the defunct Bushmaster BAR-10.

Wait a minute. Bushy gave up on their .308?

Huh. I didn't think the AR would work with FAL mags. They should've just made it take either AR-10 mags or SR-25 mags and called it good. Or M14 mags, even, but the FAL mag is just too different.
