I saw a compensated EAA Witness in .45 yesterday. I've owned a CZ-type before (a longslide-ported Springfield Armory P9 in .40 -- stupidest sale I've ever made) and I like them.

Anybody have any experience with reliability, accuracy, etc., of this particular model?

Nope, no experience.

But I do have a long slide ported 40 Springfield IPSC Ultra P9...

Hehehe......

You are right, they (the p9 ultras) were and are great little guns. I bought mine just for the trigger and I really really love the little bugger. It is my wifes favorite gun to shoot at the range.

I had a carry comp 45 (I assume that is what you saw). It ran fine, without any malfunctions I can recall. It wasn't terribly accurate, but nothing to complain about. The comp was of dubious value, IMHO. Most .45 ammo is not high-pressure enough to really make it work. I noticed some reduction in muzzle climb with +P, but nothing to justify the presense of the comp. I would rather have had the extra barrel length and avoided fouling issues caused by the venting of the gas upwards. Now in 10mm or .38 Super, it would have been an interesting piece. I note that EAA says there is a 10mm Carry Comp, but I have yet to see one.

I have a comped and accurized .45 from the EAA Accuracy Shop...comes in a fitted aluminum case with several fitted magazines.

Frankly, it's not one of my favorite .45s. It's strictly a hardball gun...doesn't function well with my favorite 185-gr SWC target ammo. It's quite accurate with hardball.

My Norinco 1911A1 clone, stock except for a Clark trigger and Hogue rubber grips, is just as, if not more, accurate, and digests every type of ammo I feed it without a hick-up. That sees much more use than my Colt or Kimber...the EAA sees the least.

Does your witness have the compensator cuts in the barrell, or is it added on like my .40 witness silver team? which so far is reliable, accurate, and a hoot to shoot, just bought a aimpoint red dot sight to mount on it for even more fun.

A friend and I had a couple Compacts except his was the
compensated Witness.

Mine was very accurate and trouble free, his was terrible.

The compensator cuts were rather crude and shaving the bullets.

He finally bought a new uncompensated barrel.

I gave mine to a friend.

I had a .40 full size compensated model with Wonderfinish, and my experiences are similar to M2's friend.

The cutouts in the slide were not symmetrical, and the 4 circular ports in the barrel were rough and crude. It was far and away the softest shooting .40 I've ever fired, but the gun would spit hot debris right back in my forearms, forehead, and hair. It was fairly reliable, only having had 2 ejection failures in 300+ rounds fired. I was a little disappointed in the precision and accuracy compared to my wonderful 9mm FS Wonderfinish model, so I sold it. My FS 9mm has been a superb gun from day one. ~10,000 rounds and still looks brand new.

I had an EAA Witness Silver Team in 40S&W which is a comped gun. Not sure if comments here are relating to comped guns or ported guns but I loved mine. I got a good (great) deal on it as it was used as a competition piece for a year and had been drilled and tapped for an Gilmore dot sight.

Of all the centerfire handguns I've ever used at 100 yards, the Silver Team was the best one. And I don't recall ever having more than maybe two failures of any kind. Accuracy/precision in my hands was better than any 1911 or any other CZ or EAA I tried. As is true of most EAA products compared to CZ products, the markings are a bit more crude and less refined, and I recommend CZ over EAA but I still think for the money, EAAs are worth a look.

I have both a Para Ordnance p14-.45, and an EAA Witness Steel 9mm comp. Both pistols work beautifully. The 9mm comp works best, leaving me with little to no muzzle rise and felt recoil. The PO however needs a fast bullet in order for the comp to work well, so I shoot mainly 185 gr at 1400 fps (>460 Rowland), and 160 swc at 1600 fps. I use a 20 lb spring for the .45. At that pressure and speed, the pistol shoots very well indeed. The 9mm is a two port, same as the .45.

Welcome to the forum toritedo2003. Do you realize that this thread is 12 1/2 years old?

Probably best to start a new one instead of bumping this dead one.
