I have a job offer in Boise, ID. Used to live in SE Idaho back in the '80s for three years while in college but didn't get a whole lot of shooting in then other than going out to the desert to plink.
Anyway, I'm wondering what is available competition-wise in the greater-Boise area. I'm currently mostly into serious black powder shooting.....but not mountain man/rendevouzing.....& do some casual military rifle shooting, but would be willing to branch out into other disciplines if that is what's available.

IMO Ee-da-how Longrifles are totally disorganized when it comes to anything but shooting, but they have regular black powder competition here: http://www.blackscreekrange.com/

Don't expect to find any information about shoots on the 'net. You have to go to the range and ask around on a match day. And the RSO will probably be busy shooting the match.

The couple who actually run the range, though, are professional and friendly. Talk to them if you can. I'd call Blacks Creek Range on Friday or Monday.

I know they do military shoots at the range.

There's also a CAS range with competition, silhouettes, pistol, etc. there. Again, information is not easy to get but you can get it by driving down there or calling.

During the dark and cold months, we have after-work pistol matches here: http://www.boiseriflepistolclub.org/club/index.cfm They're fun, competitive and social, and we have a couple High Masters and an old Olympic competitor who can offer good coaching.

Cowboy Fastdraw (steel, not blanks) is pretty popular in some circles, with a club in Caldwell and one in Idaho City. The National Championships are in Idaho City, an old mining town up in the mountains north of Boise.

Impact Guns in Boise does IDPA indoors.

Nampa has a long-range rifle range with competitions.

Clay shooting is available in a few places, including http://www.boisegunclub.com/drupal6/ and http://www.blackdogclays.com/
