You missed Brownells.

As far as discounts I get the most benefit/use from Midway and occaisionally Brownells. These two definetly worthwhile.

very very nice!

tricky, would you mind if i pmed you about help getting a c&r?
i have all the papers filled out but don't know what to do next. if anyone else can help, please do let me know.

I'm pretty much stuck on the whole "chief local LEO" part. not sure what to do, and here in Los Angeles I'm a bit leery of walking into the PS and talking about me and guns.

Regarding your LEO question, you only have to mail a copy of your application with a cover letter saying "I'm applying for my C&R and I have to notify you, blah blah blah" (paraphrasing). They don't have to do anything, you just have to notify them.

You can add the following places to your list:

www.gunsnammo.com (if you like Finnish M39s)
www.empirearms.com
www.allans-armory.com
www.centuryarms.com

I'll post more as I think of them...

Add AIM to your list....

pick up a copy of Shotgun News. Most of the suppliers are listed in there......

ah, yes.

re: empire arms, don't forget they have this "secret C&R website". it's something about Tuco's webpage, I lost the link but someone might know what I'm talking about and have it.

btw: Raggedclaws, thanks so much for the tip - but to whom do I send the CLEO copy to? Just my local police station? The Sheriff's office?

ps: and also http://www.classicarms.us

Silver,

I live in LA also and I just got my C&R. All you are required to do is send the copy of the application to CLEO. I was stuck trying to figure out who to send to, i.e, LAPD, local small PD. I decided on sending to Sheriff's Department attn: Leroy Baca. I chose them because they have county jurisdiction, and remember this is just to notify them, they are to take no action. My thoughts are that if I sent it to somplace like the Maywood PD, then someone might want to stop by and chat a little. I'm not looking to do anything illegal, I just don't want to be on their watch list. I also trust the Sheriff's dept a little more. I will post my letter to him next post.

Feel free to ask me any questions.

The problem isn't finding places who offer a C&R discount, it's finding places willing to sell to you.

I hate being in Crook County.

Dear Chief Baca,

Enclosed please find a copy of my ATF Form 7CR. This copy is being sent to you as per federal regulation for notification purposes. You are not required to take any action with respect to the enclosed form. If I can be of any service, or if there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the address below.

Sincerely,

I need to add that I did not create the letter I posted above, I just copied it from another forum and added my information. I forget where I got is, so I apologize for not being able to give credit to the author

For those that think you should call your CLEO for answers of any kind regarding a C&R app, don't waste your time. If you feel you MUST call, just for the experience, be prepared that usually no one knows what you are talking about. You will get almost the same answers if you were to call your corner supermaket, ask for the bakery and tell them that you are sending your C&R app to them. I called the LA Sheriff's office and everyone I spoke to had no clue of what they should do with a C&R app.

I guess that this is good for us; If the local LE understood that I was telling them I would be building a collection of guns, they would be asking a lot more questions. :D

Since it is just down the street from my place, I went to my local PD. I explained to the officer "I collect really, REALLY OLD firearms, but since they are still technically considered firearms, I am getting a license from the ATF, and they want me to drop this off here just to give you a 'heads up' and don't worry; you don't have to do anything because the ATF takes care of it all." :)

The officer didn't know what it was, either.

I've used my C&R discount at Midway a few times but it only took one order make up the cost of the C&R license. $20 off of a new barrel here, $2 off on a box of ammo there, and it adds up. If I knew about Numrich, I could have saved some money there as well :( .
