I took my youngest son small game hunting today. No luck, but driving down the road I spied an antler. What was strange is we found both antlers in the middle of the road. It was from a smallish 8 point, but a lucky find indeed.

very nice. the only shed ive ever found was a nice size 5 pt. i estimate the spread at abut 15inches but never seen the dang deer LOL

About 5 or 6 years ago I took my son and 2 of his friends hunting. I told the youngest, Coulter to walk down a deer trail to look for a buck. He came back in less than 5 minutes with a perfect 8 point skull and antlers. Less than 2 hours after his find here comes this 1960's vs Beetle with this old guy (80's) and his wife. I told Coulter to show him his find. The old fella told us "I shot that deer last year and couldn't find it". I was hoping that Coulter would give the old guy his rack, but he declined and I stood by his decision.

This is one of the strangest things that has happened in the woods. That was the first and last time I saw that old fella and I hunt there a lot.

It gives a guy a good excuse to just wander around in the woods. The bears are waking up about then though and having kids running loose is a poor idea in grizzly country.

The last known bear in our neck of the woods was shot by the sheriff of Nassau county and he caught heck from game and fish.

Last January during the late season doe hunt I spied a shed laying in some pasture grass. I picked it up and said to my self how cool it would be to find the other one because of its size. I turn to one side and there is the other one 10 feet away!!!!! My bud scored em close enough to say 180. I have NO idea how to post the pic but if some one would I can send the pic to them and have them post it. I'e got em mounted on a piece of barn board.

Funny enough, I was just reading on another forum today about a guy who actually saw antlers being shed off a deer (apparently both of them at the same time).

I've never found a set before, just singles.

Went out for a few hours this morning to look. All I found was some trash that floated down the creek from upstream.

May still be a bit early to look. I have always had my best luck while hunting mushrooms so just about a month or so from now.

My yellow lab has developed a nice habit of hunting and finding sheds. He then brings them to me in gratitude for me taking him out on walks in the woods and creek bottoms.
I have found complete pairs a couple times and once spent 3 weeks looking for the other side of a non-typical that eluded me for 3 months of archery season. I have a nice collection of sheds on my garage wall.

If I lived closer to the woods collecting sheds would be a great hobby. Good exercise and inexpensive fun too.
