I'm looking for a complete AR15 to buy (not build) that has an 1:8 twist rate out of the box. Prefer DD or BCM level quality, but flexible there. 16" mid-length.

This does not need to be a discussion about 1:8 vs 1:7. Just trying to find one.

Springfield Armory Saint. I have found mine to be at least BCM level qualify, for sure (I own both DD and BCM, along with my 1:7 Colt 6920s). I know the BCM fanboys will argue that, but I'll hold firm on this one -- it's a great rifle.
That is an option!

Any opinions on the Sionics?

They sell complete rifles as well.
Oh yeah, I'm aware (I actually own one of their M4s, thanks to the late, great Pat Rogers' endorsement), just didn't know the company had a complete 1:8 carbine, they used to be all 1:7 IIRC ... I do stand by my opinion of the Saint as a worthy competitor to the BCMs, at least that's been my experience so far.

The 1:8's are definitely less prevalent in their line up, but I'd been under the impression they've usually had one or two offerings among all the 1:7's.

Those SS410 barrels are under appreciated I think. I've steered a few people towards them and they've always been very happy with them. Most people have never heard of them.

So all my "fun" ammo is 55gr. By most reports (and I do NOT want to debate this), most 1:7 barrels are fine with 55gr pills, BUT NOT ALL of them. So why take the chance? I have zero interest in heavy .223 bullets. This is for fun; fun ammo is cheap; cheap ammo is 55gr.

I'm not debating you, but I just find it funny your picking out a "match" type SS barrel, to shoot cheap bulk ammo.

In my experience, I've never had issues with 55gr in 1:7 that wasn't the ammo's fault (i.e. wouldn't shoot in other rifles with slower twists).

Either way, you'll be happy with that barrel.

Cursory reviews of those SS barrels on the web don't get a lot of praise. I'm still looking...but keeping BCM in my back pocket.

I know nothing on how to build an AR15 and while I'm sure I could learn, I'd rather just buy one. I'm not an AR15 kind of person, but want to get one before....well, just want one now.

You'll be fine doing what you're doing with a 1:8" (or at least as fine as 55 ball can be, which isn't), but you've been mislead by half-truths.

After installing LITERALLY hundreds of barrels into AR's in my life, and using 55 ball and 50 V-max's as my proving and function testing ammunition, I'm very confident to say the only 1:7" barrels which have trouble with 55grn bullets:

1) Barrels which are too long and push bullets too fast, increasing RPM's past the integrity limit of the bullet - this is usually >24" in my experience

2) Barrels owned by someone who only ever tried ONE 50/55grn factory load which didn't shoot well (which was often fired offhand with irons by inexperienced hands) who later chose to vilify the bullet weight as the exclusive reason the rifle didn't shoot well

3) Barrels owned by someone who compared 55 ball surplus ammo to some premium heavier bullet and then ran around the internet screaming about how their rifle likes the 69/77SMK's but can't shoot well with any 55 grain bullet they've tried

4) Barrels which simply don't shoot worth a piss with any bullet of any weight

5) Barrels which only exist in the imagination of the internet liar trying to validate whatever twist rate vs. bullet weight table they found online

Well I don’t think that’ll be a disappointment! I only have a Wilson Combat upper receiver I used for a 300BLK build but it’s been great (I know, totally irrelevant but I wanted to add something, lol). My 5.56s are all 1/7 twist, save for my 1973 Colt SP1 with its 1/12. I agree with Varminterror about twist rate but sure wouldn’t kick that 1/8 Wilson barrel out of bed. I’m sure it’ll be good for everything up through 77 grainers. Range report due immediately!

My sight of choice is backordered until May so it'll be forthcoming! I'll report here if the thread is still open. It looks like a quality unit.

MSRP is $2099.95 but one of my local stores had it for $1550 before tax, so that made it a no brainer. The had a wall of high-end AR15's like Noveske, DD and several SCARs. I think many of them were there since the store opened, hence the price drop(?). They had the Springfield SAINT as well but with the price on the Wilson, it was too good to pass up.

I've been running a BCM SS410 1in8 twist barrel for years now. Shoots sub MOA ready with match ammo and stays around 1.5 - 2 MOA with bulk 55 grain. Good enough for shooting sohlouettes out to 600 yards. I've run 77 grain out to just under 1100 yards.

I doubt you will be disappointed with that Wilson! They make quality stuff. What sight are you going to put on it? Be sure to run a patch or two down the barrel and lube it well before you go shoot it.

I have one of those PA prism scopes and it’s been excellent. I haven’t thrown it out of a Blackhawk helicopter or anything, but it definitely punches above its weight. My daughter liked mine so much, she insisted on having one for her 1st carbine build. She’s an absolute crack shot with the thing.

I have a cheap Anderson 1 in 8 on a coyote rifle.
Ran some 50gr Fiocchi ballistic tip factory .223 in it.
Inch group at 100 yards (benched w a 4X).
Thought that'd be good enough.

Unfortunately new electronic callers have been a curse LOL
At least we get some exercise.
