Does anyone Know of a computer program that will enable me to catalog my gun collection? Mainly for insurance purposes, I would like to take a picture of each gun and record the guns serial number, price paid, condition, barrel length, caliber, etc.. I'm not very computer savvy, so ease of use would be very important. Also, I have a PC not a Mac. Thanks in advance. Princecookie

I can't help you, other than suggest maybe just using a database, but I wanted to point out that if your house is broken into and your firearms are stolen, it's likely that they'll also make off with your computer. Same thing for fire or flood.

So, if you do use your computer for this, make a backup on CD or something and store it off-site. Or maybe mail it to a gmail account.

Personally, I use a program called Codewallet for my iPaq pocketPC which is with me or within arms reach 90% of the time. It's an encrpyted database type application for storing just this type of thing, along with stuff like bank account numbers, product serial numbers, etc.

Just make a Word document. Insert a .jpg of each gun into the document "Insert>Picture>From File" and then type whatever you want. And save it on a CD in a safe. Or email it to yourself and somebody else.

Why don't you just put your info and pictures on here?
We'd all like to see it, and it's permanent....

Gun inventory software

I am currently running NM Collector software and am pleased with it. I have put most of the collection on it and once I get the hang of it ( not a computer guy ) it works very well. I'm going to try the Gun Safe also to see which is easier. Paid $20.00 or so for NM. O C

This one is free. http://www.huntingnut.com/index.php?name=News&file=article&sid=3 The database is the 4th tab on the program. It also stores loading info, figures ballistic calculator, calulate ballistic coefficient, bullet sectional density, muzzle energy, recoil, Taylor Knockdown, and English/metric conversion.
It doesn't have a photo section but I just created a separate file for jpg photos.

Hey thanks,

Lots of good ideas. As soon as I have a little free time I'll try some out. Thanks again, Princecookie
