I am planning on buying a Ruger Sp-101 (hopefully in .327) and I was wondering what would be the best way to carry concealed this gun after I get my Concealed Permit? I am 5'11 and 280 (barrel chested with a extra barrel in the belly :uhoh: (Lost 40 pounds thouhg this year, so I am getting in better health) )

What Style of holster would be good for me? :) (I used OWB before, thats it)

Drgong. . .Asheville native here. I've had good luck with my Simply Rugged Silver Dollar Pancake. I wear it IWB but I believe it is also configured for OWB carry. It's a versatile holster. Fit and finish are excellent. The holster carries very well with my SP101.

Just depends. I, personally carried my SP101 IWB in my own home built (Tandy leathercraft) holster. I'd rather pocket carry, but that thing was WAY too heavy for MY pockets. I put a Hogue grip on it for the recoil control, anyway, so it was an IWB gun only for me. Forget ankle holsters, too. You'll have to carry it the same way you'd carry a K frame. I sold mine back to my son-in-law. I have a 3" Taurus 66 that's just about as easy to carry IWB as the SP101 and shoots better. The SP101 had a 2.3" barrel. If I get another one, it'll have the 3" barrel. Kinda dumb to get the shorter one, no real way you'd really need it and the 3" gives you a longer sight radius, easier to shoot well.

Just my $.02.

Just a couple of suggestions.

Any of the better IWBs from Kramer, Milt Sparks , etc. I personally carry in a DeSantis Cozy Partner IWB, very comfortable, you can do a lot worse.

There is something new on the market now, The Smart Carry Holster. Google it. See what you think. Just be warned, this is a deep concealment holster, probably not a quick draw piece.

I just ordered a holster from this guy, http://www.taurisholsters.com/index.cfm , Of the few people who own one that I know of, they wear it over all of their other holsters.

I ordered a reinforced high ride with a thumbbreak and tension screw because I plan on using the holster for open carry, and concealing when I have to.

He was a pleasure to talk with, he is a former cop in NY. He goes through his holsters, helps you decide which one you need for your use, tells you that if you don't like it you can send it back for a refund and then tell you you will have a handmade holster in about 3-4 weeks. The price is comprable to the high volume holster makers that you have to wait for months to get.

I will post a review after getting it in about 3 weeks.

I am having mine built for a S&W 610.

I have a Milt Sparks VM2 for a S&W N frame, but my pants have shrunk so now I carry almost exclusively OWB.

My two main holsters I use for my 3" SP101 are a Don Hume IWB, 15M No. 52-3

And I also have a Concealco.

Strangely enough I like the Concealco better, however I find myself using the Don Hume more.
I left-hand appendix carry most of the time. The Hume has a clip right over the cylinder, which makes it bulkier than I prefer. But the clip detaches pretty quick. Many times my SP rides in my briefcase or laptop bag. So it's real handy for this.

The Concealco has the belt clip offset, which I prefer. It also allows it to ride a little lower, which I also prefer. But it definitely does not quick detach like the Hume. Usually if I'm going to carry on my hip I go with the Concealco. It boils down to how I dress as to which one I pick.

I've tried a few others, but these are the ones I find most comfortable. I do intend to try a pseudo belly band in the near future. I find nowadays due to the way I dress (business) I like to get stuff off of my belt and out of my pockets.
