concealed carry at the beach

Obviously guns and swimming in salt water are a bad mix, but not every time spent on the beach involves swimming. We also go fishing there, which only get your legs wet, and beach walking. If I do go down to actually swim, the guns stay home.
 
I have no problem conceal carrying my 4" .500 S&W on the beach or anywhere else with a few speed loaders.
 
This is a silly reply, but the way things are, I would think not many would give you a second look if you wore a colorful Glock; paint it green or orange, and carried it in a plastic childs holster from K-mart. "Squirt Gun!"

Maybe not.

That might work if it was legal. Check you state laws before anyone thinks of trying this. I know in NC it is illegal to attempt to disguise a real gun as a toy and vice versa. Now the cooler is not a bad idea, but it would have to be gaurded at all times. Coolers have a habit of growing legs at the beach :mad:.

I've seen a couple of stories here about people actually carrying into the water. Neither worked that well :eek:. Both involved a zip lock bag.

One was a S&W 642 or 442, and the seal to the bag broke and soaked the gun in salt water. Apparently the internal parts had already started corroding only hours afterwards - the gent in question flushed it out, re-lubed everything. Everything was fine, supposedly.

I can't remember for sure what the gun was in the second case. I think it was a Keltec P32 or P3AT. Anyway, the zip lock baggie had just enough air in it to be boyant :what::eek:. Luckily, the guy in question saw his Kel Tec floating on the surface a few feet from him and grabbed it.

So I don't think there is ANY good way to carry in the ocean itself. And as far as the beach goes, I have a CCW permit and could keep it in a beach bag. But what if I went for a swim, would my non-permit holding wife be able to sit with the beach bag and keep it legal? I don't think so ...
