The City of Houston requires individuals with CHLs (Concealed Handgun License) to identify themselves by wearing red stars while in certain municipal buildings. Forget the little red stars and treat the Mayor of Houston to a "real" badge.

agreed

Isn't the point of having a CCW that no one knows about it?

Definately reminds me of the other star program.

The idiocy of Houston aside, I've never understood the desire of some civilians to have a shield or badge - is it a cop-wannabe thing?

What a great idea!

We could color code the stars too, so they know what type of gun you carry. They give you two stars if you have a BUG. Add a triangle under the star if you carry a knife also.

Yeah. Brown stars for a 1911, Red Star for CZ, Gold for Desert Eagle, Silver for S&W, Pink for Glock...

And a sun ray effect of you carry pepper spray...

Here are some people who were FORCED to wear Stars, before the rest of their rights were taken away by a repressive goverment!

If I was in a City Building I would wear a Gold star of David. I don't know if anyone would put two and two together.

conceal (v) - To keep from being seen, found, observed, or discovered; hide. See synonyms at "hide".

Synonyms: hide, conceal, secrete, cache, screen, bury, cloak These verbs mean to keep from the sight or knowledge of others.

I don't understand how a badge helps to accomplish this.

I read through some of the comments and the following will get you in some trouble in Colorado.. They don't call it concealed for nothing.

"By making you wear a badge indicating you are carrying a weapon, it could be possible they are forcing you to violate the provisions of your license by making the presence of your weapon known to the general public"

Interesting

In WA State we can't carry in many, if not all government buildings. It's been a while since my CCW study for my permit. So I'm a bit fuzzy on which government buildings I can and can't carry in.

We don't have ridiculous badges here. "We don't need to stinkin badges" (line from a movie).

I just leave the bang stick in car when going into government building. I need to get a lockbox for my center glovebox thing.

What's that star business about? It reminds me of watching the history channel and the Jews had to wear stars in Germany so the Nazis could easily identify them on sight. Think about that. Maybe the gov can provide you with a large badge or star to hang on your home and business too.

We can carry in the Capital Building! :D

Other than that, be prepared to leave the gun in the car or check it with the Deputies at the door.

Perhaps some sort of CCW siren too?

WOOOOOOO(...It's okay folks- I have a concealed firearm!)OOOOOOOOooooo...

.

I would only wear a badge if the STATE paid me a rediculous amount of money. I am a free person, not a subject. I would wear a badge if all city, County, State and Federal employees surrendered all their salaries and authority to me. On the other hand, if they are knowingly harrassing an innocent citizen, they should be worried.

Chupacabra et. al in WA,
Are you sure?
Read the sign near the doors to the new Seattle City Hall carefully and then read the Seattle Municipal Code and RCWs. :)

I'm an LEO, and I can obviously carry whatever way I see fit, and well, you'll very very very rarely see me carrying open. It screams "SHOOT ME FIRST" and I certainly do not put a badge on visible. All that does is scream "COME ASK ME FOR DIRECTIONS" or "I'M A GOOD WITNESS, SHOOT HERE..."

So when I run across these type badges, I wonder about the sanity of the people wearing them. It blows my mind.

For your own good, conceal. In most states, non-LEO's cannot carry into govt buildings...Well, even if you can and you have to put a star on, just don't do it. The chances of justifiably using deadly force in a courthouse for example is very very low.

But the badge, leave it at home unless you're someone who was given a badge when you were sworn in.
