For work, I have to update my computer access credentials. I must bring 2 forms of identification. A permitted secondary form of identification includes an "ID card issued by a federal, state, or local government agency or entity, provided it contains a photograph; exceptions apply", see below... When one references below, the list of identity proofing documents not accepted includes the following: "License to Carry". And why not? Mine contains a photograph and was issued by the county.

Unless your employer is a member of this forum, no one here can answer that question.

I won't specifically state who my employer is other than it is a very large organization and employs many.

I didn't expect you to. My point was that you're asking us to explain the reasoning for your employer's company policy. As far as I know, none of us is your employer, which means none of us has any idea what the reasoning is for that policy.

It just seems to me that a concealed carry permit should not be regarded as not an acceptable choice as it contains a photograph and was issued by a government entity. I'm surprised this has not been challenged in a court of law. Maybe by the NRA?

Of course it's legal for ID. But I suspect they are within their rights to specify types of ID for their tech policy. If your "large" employer has an anti-gun bias or even someone in HR with a bias they could make some trouble for you. No it's not right. Just the way things are in some corporations.

On that county issued carry permit, what is the standard for issue and how secure is the card? It may simply be a matter of how much vetting is required to get the card and how secure it is against copying.

My Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit requires passing state and federal background checks and staying out of jail to keep it. Like the Tennessee Driver License it is a plastic card, photo ID, multiple hologram copy-proof features. The state also has a photo ID card for those who don't drive or carry. By state law the TDL, the photo ID card and the THCP are accepted as a valid photo ID when photo ID is required.

ADDED: Yes, there may be anti-gun bias in management. The THCP is open or concealed (but concealed carry preferred); while my son used his THCP for voter id, I used my TDL. I operate on concealed carry preferred, need-to-know only. Too many bigots out there in positions of power.

I've seen a CCW on the list as an explicitly accepted form if ID for lots of governmental and employment uses.

I've always figured out a way to use another form of ID, preferring to keep my CCW as private as possible.

This isn't really a legal question. The OP's employer apparently has adopted a policy of not accepting a CCW as a secondary form of identification for certain work related purposes. We have no way of knowing why the OP's employer has adopted that policy.

If anyone can think of a legal dimension of the question which might appropriately be discussed in the Legal Forum, please send me a PM; and I'll consider re-opening the thread.
