After chase, large guy brandishes a tiny dog

February 27, 2004

After leading an Oakland County sheriff's deputy on a high-speed chase Thursday, a burly contractor got out of his pickup and attacked the officer with his tiny French poodle, swinging the dog on his leash.

"I've seen people ram cars. I've seen people fight," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. "But to take a poodle on a leash and make it a weapon -- that's a new extreme in bizarre behavior."

The 5-foot-8, 226-pound suspect, a 37-year-old Shelby Township man whose name was not released by police, was arrested in Oakland Township and is likely to be be arraigned today. He was taken to North Oakland Medical Centers in Pontiac for psychological observation.

He faces five felony and two misdemeanor counts. Police said he rammed the deputy's car with his pickup before swinging his pet.

The dog was taken to the Oakland County Animal Care Center in Auburn Hills and was fine, police said. By Frank Witsil

OK, me first. If it was balck, it was obviously one of them miniturized tactical assault poodle. they must be kept out of the hands of portly contactors and the public at large. Since they're so small and concealable, they could pop out anywhere, ban them now, it's 'for the children'.:barf:

Any bets on how long before this one disappears?

Edited to add: Just saw the pup on the news. It WAS tactical black (and real cute), weighed in at 7 lbs., and needed a good brushing. The perp had half a dozen good sized hunting knives, a hatchet or two, and a couple of sticks, including the nefaroius "Bubba stick" with a heavy brass knob. It would have been much more effective at repelling boarders than the dog.

Hmmm... not much of a gun involved, but as long as this thread stays on the High Road, I guess we can always use a laugh! :D

My contribution: can one get an IWB leash?

Alternate ending:

Officer shoots dog with his AR-15. When his superiors question why he did it, he responds: "Well, it is a poodle shooter, isn't it?"

Just realized it was a French Poodle. What did he expect the dog to do, surrender?

Once again the police have irrational reaction to a rational situation. The guy was mearly sending the French Poodle out to negotiate their surrender
I know it's been done but I couldn't resist
