Confusion on cleaning an AR-15

LOL Glad I could make someone laugh. Seriously though. Not 6940 has had about 1800 rounds through it in the last 6 weeks or so and I haven't cleaned it yet. When I do clean it I removed the Bolt from the BCG, clean it good, wipe down the surfaces, then fun a brush and patches through from the chamber end a couple times. Takes very little time and it is all that is needed. I can make it spotless if I need to but it will just get dirty again in a day or two.

I know that people worry about things that cost a good deal of money, but for the love of God, if an M16 can go through three desert operations, training, live-fire exercises, and so on in the military with maybe only needing a new gas tube, I'm pretty sure your AR - unless it has a super-soft barrel - is not going to be harmed by what little abuse the average shooter can subject it to. :neener:

However, if you do have one of those soft, non-lined barrels, then yes - I'd be very cautious, since one molecule of grit or small nick will impact your shooting by a very, very noticeable 0.01 moa
