I'm thinking about getting a Smart Carry rig for a Glock 29. Does anyone have experience with Smart Carry rigs to share? I'm mostly concerned with concealability as some of my co-workers may be very concerned (offended) by the proximity of a handgun. I usually wear very loose trousers or shorts (occaisonally a kilt) and I don't think printing will be a problem. Certain aspects of my job require a lot of walking, bending, crawling, climbing, putting on and removing a pack and a lot of dirt and sweat. Other than concealability--does the Smart Carry "ride up" in the back? I am wondering about comfort, can you get in and out of vehicles without it binding? How secure is the weapon? How well is the trigger protected? Generally, how well suited is the Smart Carry rig for high activity?

Well, what are you planning on carrying? I own two of them, and used one this summer for about a week while I was visiting an out of state friend. I carried his Taurus 431 all-steel 3" 44 Spl (his "library" is limited) and while it was not optimum, it was workable.

A j-frame or my Kahr PM9 (or even my Kahr P45) would have been more comfortable. But I carried that 44 everywher I went for seven days, undetected, wearing only shorts and a t-shirt.

FWIW, I am a 50 year old 145# skinny geek, and don't have a lot of "overhang".

The SmartCarry is a viable concealment rig. Loose trousers (to facilitate access) are a definite plus. As far as "riding up" goes, yes, the around-the-waist strap does tend to ride up in back, in direct proportion to the front part being pulled down--a heavier pistol exacerbates this, while a lighter/smaller one will minimise this.

I have used one for a glock 22 for over a year now. Other than an occasional, minor pinch when sitting down, i have had no issues. I carry mine higher than the guy suggests, but it works for me. The slight discomfort is a small price to pay for the peace of mind that it affords. The draw is also surprisingly fast and the stap riding up has never been a problem for me.

I highly suggest them as opposed to some of the other types as the smart carry is model specific.

Thanks for the reviews of the SmartCarry. The remark on weight being an issue was insightful. Does anybody use the extra magazine pouch.

Yes, a kilt. But I don't have a problem carrying IWB in that as it is accompanied by a stout belt and a nice shirt. People are usually checking out the pleats and don't notice anomolous bulges around my waist... probably better than an aloha shirt. I believe I could conceal a PLR-16 dressed in a kilt.

I occasionally wear one, but I find it more comfortable to have the barrel point down the right thigh, just behind the right front pocket.

I wear it totally under the shirt and I tuck the shirt in.

The shirt is tucked between the grip and the "holster".

Since most of my cargo shorts and slacks have elastic in the waist, it's not a problem to slip my hand into the waistband for access.
