I have a Westernfield Old Mossberg 500).
It has been converted to a H/D 20" gun and I'd like to use the fulll magazine capacity.
How to do? What length (for 2 3/4" buckshot ) wooden Plug?
Thanks

Take the barrel off.

Point the gun down, and shake vigorously.

The wood dowel rod 'Plug' should fall out of the magazine tube.

There's a stick type plug in the magazine tube. I lost mine and had to make another for my hunting season. It was a small dowel with rubber o-rings on it. Pretty easy.

my 500GS was shipped with a green plastic cruciform "stick in it and rc is correct about how I removed it. Not even sure where it is now. I think I know were the wooden dowel I cut for it for if I ever hunt with it is, but what would people say if they saw a short black plastic stocked pump shotgun with Ghost Ring sights in the hunting field?

Doesn't matter what you bring to the field.....it's all about how well you shoot it.

If you bring something outside the norm, so be it.

If you do that and shoot like crap, well you deserve whatever flack you catch :)

Folks I know around here* would call it a slug gun, brush gun or swamp gun. Great for slug or buckshot for biggame in heavy cover, and the slightly wider pattern with birdshot works well for hunting bird or small game in grown up areas.

*(UPDT: Long ranges can be hard to find in the mountains. East Tennessee stood in for a jungle in one of those Chuck Norris movies a few years back; an acquaintance who was involved in local dinner theatre, Nils Cruz, had a bit part. ADDED: it was Delta Force 2, had to look it up, those 1980s action flix were kind of a blur.)

^^^^^ Not sure on a Mossberg but there may be a spring/cap retainer in there you have to pop out like on a 870.
Mossberg 500s attach the barrel to the mag tube with a large machine screw. It threads into a "nut" permanently attached to the end of the magazine that also acts as the magazine spring retainer. No clip is needed. As stated, once the barrel screw is out of the way, the dowel can be shaken out.

Thanks folks!!
I wondered if I needed ssme sort of cap over thhe springend.
